A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

what did you wrench on today??

Spent the last year re-building my 1978 CX500. It was my everyday transport year round for many years, before hibernating in the shed for the last ten. Anyway, finally got the engine into the frame and the wiring re-done. The engine has been totally rebuilt, so I was a little nervous when I put...

what did you wrench on today??

Last few months I have been re-building "Betsy", my 78 CX500. Been in bits in the shed for over ten years. Came around to fitting the clutch cable, which I know was in the garage someplace, kept seeing it and one of the things that kick started the rebuild. But could I find it ?, searched the...

    Faulty coil ?

Problem solved and I am feeling like a bit of an idiot !. Took the tank off today to get at the coils and the one for pots 1 & 4 had one of the terminals disconnected, think I must have caught it when putting the tank back on at the week-end. Connected back up and very carefully put the tank...

    Faulty coil ?

Thanks for the reply sir, much appreciated. Charging system checks out ok and the battery is good, only recently fitted a new one. Valves I need to check, been a while since I did that last and she is a bit tappety. Still thinking coil or condenser for the sparkless 1 & 4.

    Faulty coil ?

Been noticing recently on rides out, that at around 45-60mph the bike feels like the bike loses a little power, almost like missing on one pot, difficult to describe but then picks up and runs ok again. Last week-end, see my post in the discussion area, had to change the kill switch/starter...

    Spooky !

The electric starter on my GS750 packed up a few weeks back, so been using the kickstarter a lot. Yesterday, finally got around to sorting it out , turned out to be a faulty kill switch. Fortunately, found a spare unit in the parts shed. So this morning, decided to go for a ride, she started...

MOT legalities (uk) for 40yr old bikes since registration

I thought what I said was basically the same as Steve, but never mind. You asked for advice and I was only trying to help by offering my understanding of how it all works.

MOT legalities (uk) for 40yr old bikes since registration

Like Steve said, basically a taxed bike not yet with the V5C changed to historic, has to have an MOT. Once the V5C is changed to have the tax class "historic vehicle" then it qualifies for MOT exemption. But you still need to fill in a form to notify the DVLA. Tax is`nt a seperate matter really...

MOT legalities (uk) for 40yr old bikes since registration

My understanding is that it will need an MOT at the moment if it is taxed but the log book has`nt yet been changed to show tax class as historic vehicle. With the tax exemption, once that is declared then you don`t pay vehicle tax. Once the bike is confirmed tax exempt as a historical vehicle by...

    Electrics problem

Took the bike out for a spin today, ran great. Got home and with engine idling, reversed into the garage (pedalling with my feet I hasten to add ) and engine cut out. Thought nothing of it as idling speed is a bit low, need to adjust, but then noticed no panel lights at all and electrics totally...

    Bike advice Vancouver

They have those in California too, flashing red lights. I thought I had read up on all the signals and signs etc, but last year driving through a little town just south of Bakersfield came across a crossroad with flashing red lights. Confused me, so I slowed down, checked nothing coming from...

    Pipe header colour puzzler !

Rich, thanks for pointing that incorrect statement, don`t know where my brain was when I typed that !. As you rightly say, the LH coil fires 1 & 4, the RH 2 & 3. Thought after you pointed it out (even though the bike runs well and smooth, which it would`nt if it was wired up as I...

    Pipe header colour puzzler !

Think I could understand it if it were the inner downpipes, but it is one inner (3) and one outer (4) that are discolouring faster. I might be wrong with my numbering system, but when sat on the bike I number the cylinders working from the left as 1 to 4. I did wonder at first about timing, but...

    Pipe header colour puzzler !

Been out and about on the GS750 a few times since her tidy up and she runs ok touchwood. A few teething problems, had oil dripping out the airbox which had me worried there was blowby and oil going up the crankcase vent, but looked in the airbox and only a bit of oil at the very bottom, the top...

    Rpm at 60mph for a GS750

Just taken the bike out for her first good run after tidying her up a bit following a long time sat in the garage. The bike is a 79 GS750, standard airbox but with a new Delkevic 4 into 1 exhaust. It has been a long time since I last rode it, about 8 years or so, and my ageing brain can`t recall...

    GS750 tidy up !

Thanks hampshirehog, got it sorted today. Lass in the post office told me DVLA do not want people sending in paperwork, but for tax status change ok for them to send in the logbook. I just wanted to get out on the bike so paid the tax, but should be refunded once the logbook is changed...

    GS750 tidy up !

Thanks LeT, must admit I thought the same, lucky the line went in the garage and not on the road. Regarding the rear shocks, the Hagons were goosed unfortunately and I could`nt afford new ones. The shocks I found on Amazon, cheap so maybe won`t last long but never know. They seem to do the job...
