A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Ramair filter help

Kev! Dual pods are best if you are running CV carbs without the airbox as it helps balance out the intake pulses that disturb the slide diaphragms. The rigid end K&N versions that clamp to the carb mouth are better in this instance than the Ram Air all foam sock type which require trumpets /...

    Unfortunately, another pod post

For pod use, open carbs or stacks all you need to do is simply install air corrector jets ( main air jet conversion ). This is the guaranteed proven solution. Leave ALL carb settings, needle position, pilot jet size STOCK and go up a size from stock on the mains. This will cure the off idle...

    Running bad... Plug Oil?Fouled? ?

Smoke on start up indicates worn stem seals and when they are really bad will foul plugs after being stood overnight or at low constant speeds when the engine isn't running fast or hot enough to burn it off. Your increased oil consumption backs this up but this may also be a result of worn bores...

    Bent Camshaft or Uneven Wear?

There's nothing unusual or uncommon about what you have found. You will always get different readings with the cam in different positions and they will always get tighter the closer you get to the cam lobe. Forget the manual and set the clearance one at a time with the lobe pointing directly...

I've been using tap water since i bought mine around 20 years ago and done hundred of carbs and other items. Just be sure to blow out the passages etc soon afterwards and there will be no problems.

    Ultrasonic Cleaner?

I've had a 6ltr one for around 20 years now and do two bodies at a time too. By the time i've prepared the first two and all their jets etc ready for rebuild the other two are ready for the same too so no real time lost. The touch controls and timer etc packed up on it a few years ago and it...

    Ultrasonic Cleaner?

Can't give advice on the make as there's so many out there but you get what you pay for. As for cleaning solutions - Plain old warm water in the tank is what you need. It's the cavitation that does the cleaning and not any chemicals. The utrasonic should be used as one of the last stages of carb...

    GS750 compression

As others have advised. Number three ( 3 ) "Vent hose" is NOT a vent hose and if not connected to a vacuum tap MUST be CAPPED OFF otherwise number three ( 3 ) cylinder will run weak. This excessivley weak mixture can cause issues which may lead to the compression loss you have found.

    Mikuni Carb Identification Help

Those are not smoothbores. They are stock Suzuki VM26 or possibly VM28's depending on the model.. They could of course have been bored out to 30mm maximum but that's not very common..

GS550 doesn't like prolonged high speeds - fuel starvation or something else?

If the bike pulls better when backing off the throttle at high rpm it can be an indication that the main jets are too big or you have a clogged air filter but you should first check that the fuel supply isn't being restricted and that the fuel tank vent and any fuel filters are not partially...

    Oversize piston rings

If the bores are just glazed and a hone leaves the piston/bore clearance within spec you would re-use your pistons and just fit new rings of the same size. If the bores are worn and the clearance too wide to take a hone you would need a rebore and fit new pistons and rings of the next available...

Has anyone had their carb bowls go dry at WOT?

Insufficient fuel supply at high rpm. Things that need checking are fuel tank vent ( partial blockage/restricted ) , fuel tap flow, fuel line size and flow, fuel line filter for partial blockage, sediment accumulation in the float valve filters if fitted and float height check. I'd spend a day...

    Anyone used this eBay ignition?

I know a few people who are using them and they perform exactly the same as the "genuine" Dyna's and are pretty much identical including the part numbers apart from the packaging. Dyna switched production from the US to China over 15 years ago and it's possible these come out of the factory back...

    Handlebars vibration: Possibles fixes

All bikes suffer from some bar vibes and you will see that even new bikes come with bar weights as stock to dampen the vibes so it's not just older machines. Silicon, bar weights and fatter /softer grips will all help. I have a combination of all three on my Z1R to cure the vibes which got worse...
