Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Fuel in port valve test - how tight does it have to be?

Fuel in port valve test - how tight does it have to be? Putting the head back together after lapping etc. The Suzuki test of fuel in the ports had, on the intake, initial slow leak that stopped. On the exhausts, no leak only seeping (an I can only tell because the tiny bit of carbon I...

valve guide stem seals hard to put on - am I doing it right?

got them on. took the spring wire off, put the seals on, used a o-ring spreader to expand the spring wire to get it on the seal, slid the spring wire down off the o-ring spreader into the groove. Had to be careful since it is easy to push the spring wire past the groove and thus off the seal...

valve guide stem seals hard to put on - am I doing it right?

The replacement seals seem too small to go on the guides. I got one on but it seemed more like luck. I did oil the seal before assembly. Unfortunately I tossed the old seals already to compare. Anyone have a new OEM one around to measure the inside diameter of the seal so I can compare...

    pitted intake valve - thoughts?

OK. So found 4 new exhaust valves on Ebay that are on their way. NAPA is still up for grinding the valves @ $3 each. They are not sure if they can do the smaller EX valves because of their size. The intakes should be large enough for their machine for sure. If their seat grinder would be...

    pitted intake valve - thoughts?

OK, OK, OK....Just frustrated since the bike ran before I wen on this replace the leaking head gasket goose chase. The NAPA machine shop said $3/valve so x8 = $24 so not so bad. Other shops were closer to $10 so that was a different story. I'll likely just do all of them including the exhaust...

    pitted intake valve - thoughts?

that is a really good article. Since it almost seem slike sharp-edge divots, I'm guessing it was some kind of chemical effect as mentioned in the article about gas flow bypass. Resurfacing the valves as Nessism suggests may be a good idea (which I won;t do first due to cost and frustration...

    pitted intake valve - thoughts?

Cleaned up the valves and will lap them next. Interestingly five of them each have a pit in the area (see marginal picture below) that appears to be the seating surface. Only like 15k on the engine. The exhaust valves look fine. Thoughts? I know the 'best' thing would be new valves and...

Where does it stop?!?!?!!!! ? engine cleaning

Where does it stop?!?!?!!!! ? engine cleaning So I took the head off to replace the leaking head gasket. Am considering having the head vat-ed and glass beaded while it is off (while it is off I decided to lap the valves and replace the valve seals but that's a different discussion) Then I...

clutch basket notches - how to file?

not yet. out of town to Thrs. I've been thinking (one I've been thinking I really don't want to loosen the large nut but it must be done.) ......but about filing, I've been thinking of covering one side of the file with plastic of some sort then I can slide it on the back side of the opposing...

clutch basket notches - how to file?

So what would be the issue with a little rounding off the edges on the fiber disks? The flat side would still engaged nicely with the basket and hopefully the sharp edges would be less likely to Nick the basket again.

need to re-gap valves if done 2 years / 100 miles ago ?

true if my past was my future - more miles expected and doing the valve lapping as mentioned in my other thread so will be adjusting them in the near future. re: other tools mentioned - Those other ones are cute (small) I'm hoping the levers on the ones I picked will be nice to use as I don't...
