A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

GSX1100EFE Rebuild

Getting the Red paint on the lower portion was the easiest part. Much easier to tape off everything else, just double check there are no gaps between paper sheets to let a fine mist through. I have at least learnt that lesson [/IMG] It even lines up neatly with the stripes on the tank...

GSX1100EFE Rebuild

Even though the original fairing is broken I could use it to set out where my stripes had to go [/IMG] A bit of measuring [/IMG] Several runs of tape. It took several goes to get the curve just right [/IMG] Finally happy with the setout so add some tape [/IMG]...

GSX1100EFE Rebuild

I took the stator off and gave it a light sand to remove the surface rust. There was only a minor bit on the cogs so i gave them a rub down where required. Took the cylinder head cover off and checked valve clearances. Only had to adjust 4 of them a minor amount. Wound the crank around by hand...

A couple of coats of Red and a 2K clear coat [/IMG] [/IMG] and it came out like this. A pretty good result. [/IMG] [/IMG]

GSX1100EFE Rebuild

GSX1100EFE Rebuild

The bike has definitely been down the road at some stage. It has a few battle scars on the fairings [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] and the engine casing [/IMG]

GSX1100EFE Rebuild

This 1100 EFE came as the other half of the purchase with the 1100ES which I have already documented elsewhere. It was packed in a container and this was the only view I could get to make the initial decision on [/IMG] A bit banged up and a few bits missing but the seller said there were...

GSX1150 Rebuild

Fork Seals are done which means the bike is pretty much complete. Just needs to be re-vinned to make it road legal. I thought I would just finish up with a bit of a cost summary to enlighten those that may wish to do something similar. As you will remember from the first post I bought this bike...

GSX1150 Rebuild

So I bought some new bathroom scales (180kg max) and tried again, I got the following readings Front - 120kg Rear - 118kg Total 238kg Bear in mind that this is wet weight, I have about 14 litres of petrol and 3.5 litres of oil in there so if we subtract that at 1kg/litre I get about...

GSX1150 Rebuild

I thought I would try and measure bikes weight to see what sort of difference I have made. I pushed bike up onto some 6x1 timber and thought if I put some scales front and rear I could measure it in 2 halves fairly accurately by just pushing the bike back & forth a bit. Front End first...

GSX1150 Rebuild

For the Number plate light I have bought a 10cm long LED striplight with connector [/IMG] and found an old piece of plastic tube to mount it in [/IMG] I then glued it over the holes I had drilled in Lens, double checking I had the LEDs pointing in the correct direction...

GSX1150 Rebuild

I have noted previously the old wheel size. I made the mistake of putting it in big letters [/IMG] My main reason for swapping it over were 1. Get a better range of modern tyres to use 2. I was getting near the end of project so needed something else to fiddle with 3. Learn something...

GSX1150 Rebuild

Wyly Yes I have changed front wheel as well. Check out Post #41 [/IMG] Once I get the front forks off again to replace the seals I will post the weight comparison for the front end as well Getting onto the final tasks now I have had to come up with a method to light the numberplate...

GSX1150 Rebuild

I have taken a little more width off the caliper bracket so i can get the wheel across another 2mm to the right [/IMG] It has made a minute difference to the alignment so I am going to leave it there. [/IMG] One other area that need modification was the chainguard. I have had to...

GSX1150 Rebuild

In response to an earlier question from Wyly What is the difference in weight between 2 wheels ? I have an answer 18" c/w disc and sprocket 18.7 kg 17" c/w disc and sprocket 16.6 kg Something else I noticed with losing 13mm of ground clearance is that it is noticeably harder...

GSX1150 Rebuild

So I took the wheel out and installed it in my spare frame and swingarm. It lines up offset just like when its on my bike. I took a few diagonal measurements on both frames and they are both very similar [/IMG] [/IMG] I even tried some triginometry lining up the centre of front...

GSX1150 Rebuild

I saw your picture when you first loaded it. It certainly lines up better than mine. [/IMG] I have pulled bike apartand can align wheel like this [/IMG] But now the brake caliper doesnt fit so there is still work to do. I am going to swap the original swingarm back in and see if...
