A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

GSX1150 Rebuild

The timeframe may seem impressive but by the time I started Posting I had already been going for a month or two so I was catching up to start with. I managed to miss those 2 week gaps between posts while waiting for bits to turn up. The wheel sits true in the swingarm with equal spacing to LHS...

GSX1150 Rebuild

Finally got the bike out on the road. A few minor niggles but runs straight, I can release handlebars at 100kph and there is no hint of a twitch. It goes round left and right corners equally well without wanting to weave across road. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] I have got the...

GSX1150 Rebuild

Got the new sprockets installed front and back [/IMG] [/IMG] The wheel alignment is pretty close. [/IMG] Although its a bit worrying when viewed from the back. I thought i had stuffed something up in the alignment [/IMG] I put the old wheel back on to check and...

GSX1150 Rebuild

Here is slightly clearer shot to show chain clearance from foot peg bolt [/IMG] I had to come up with somewhere to mount indicators at front of bike seeing as how i have got rid of the fairing frame. I had these little indicators lying around and they mount nicely onto the bracket which...

GSX1150 Rebuild

I had issues fitting my chain conversion and I have oem wheels. Changing to the 530 17/45 sprockets moved the chain height to where it would contact the peg hanger bolts. I found reversing the rear sprocket which was dished provided the extra couple of mm's I needed for clearance. This is...

GSX1150 Rebuild

So out with the old and in with the new [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] The existing shaft has this spacer fixed on it [/IMG] I am changing sprockets from 15/42 to 17/47 to maintain same ratio for now. [/IMG] I am changing to 530 chain and have installed 6mm spacer...

GSX1150 Rebuild

Here is a shot of the old swingarm that is a bit twisted. There is a crack about 25mm long on the top face. [/IMG] And here is the Cush Drive space I had to get drilled out to fit on 20mm axle [/IMG] Prior to swapping the rear wheel over I thought i would check the difference...

GSX1150 Rebuild

I have a spare swingarm that I am going to transplant onto the bike as the current one has a tiny crack. This has made it easier in setting it up as I can do it on the bench. Well mostly easier but step 1 was very hard. Get the swingarm off the spare frame. I had beem oiling and spraying the...

GSX1150 Rebuild

And this is what the new rear wheel arrangement will hopefully look like [/IMG] GS500 Cush Drive has arrived and I have the GSX650 Katana Rear Caliper and Bracket on the way. The Bracket will require a bit of cutting/grinding. I have started by lining up centre of wheel with existing...

GSX1150 Rebuild

And onto the rear wheel replacement. Even though its been done a thousand times before it is hard to find all the information you want in 1 location. I have a 5.5" rear wheel which I bought a couple of years ago but after reading online the required alterations I found a better option which is...

GSX1150 Rebuild

In the previous photos you will have noticed a chrome header, black exhaust and a temporary fibreglass pipe to join the 2 ends (for alignment purposes only) I had the rear half of the V&H Exhaust on the bike but I lost it. I had drilled a hole in underside of RH rear footpeg bracket and riveted...

GSX1150 Rebuild

So here is the original tank, complete with small dent, paint missing and a bit of rust [/IMG] And the new Tank [/IMG] Does it need a Logo? [/IMG] The eagle eyed will have noticed I also painted the front fender. Its OK from the side but front on it is a bit off centre...

GSX1150 Rebuild

I wasn't going to worry about smartening up the bike too much but as I have got a spare tank I thought I would give it a repaint anyway Partially stripped down it looked like this. [/IMG] Not too bad condition but 1 of the tabs where you fix the tank rubber straps to has been repaired...

GSX1150 Rebuild

As the eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted, I am trying to keep the Instrument cluster on the bike. This is a bit difficult with new forks as i dont want to keep the original bracket which mounts off steering stem. My approach was to make a custom bracket which is going to be mounted off...

GSX1150 Rebuild

The Purists should probably look away now as the alterations begin in earnest. I picked up a front end and wheel from a 98 GSXR1100 about 3 years ago and got discs and calipers about 2 years ago. It was going to go on an 1100E but I think will be more suited on this bike, changing a 16" to a...

GSX1150 Rebuild

Can you fellow 1150 owners tell me what engine revs you do at 60mph/100kmph? I am doing about 4500rpm on standard 15/42 gearing so i suspect primary gear ratios have been adjusted by PO for racing in its previous life.

GSX1150 Rebuild

The Red 1150 EFE will be staying standard and keeping its fairings and headlight but I am going to go a bit custom on this one. Not too much, it will still be instantly recognised as an 1150ES.

GSX1150 Rebuild

I am not really a fan of the full fairing so was trying out the fairing from 750ESD model which I have lying around [/IMG] With a bit of computer paint I got this version [/IMG] I am also looking at replacing front end with 17" wheeland USD forks as I have a set lying around I...

GSX1150 Rebuild

Heres a better shot of the missing engine metalware [/IMG] It doesn't seem to effect anything so i will leave it as is. I have pulled apart the RS36 carbs to clean them and came across an issue. While dismantling No.3 I was trying to poke out the hinge that holds float and it broke...

GSX1150 Rebuild

I have used automotive body filler in the cracks on the top side. Works so far but who knows what a few thousand Kays on rough roads will loosen. [/IMG] So mostly back together. I have a signal cover in a box somewhere [/IMG] I have all the fairings but i am not going to install...
