A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Another from Ohio...

I was going to say, in your efforts please go through every single electrical connection and either clean or replace them with spade connectors. They get dirty and corroded and prevent good contact.

    GS650G & Me

Welcome to the forum. This is where you want to be for that nice looking bike. Ditto on being careful installing the seat cover as I have ripped one myself in the process.

what did you wrench on today??

Not exactly new anymore. Due to my stupidity of installing the cam chain tensioner incorrectly, I've created a bad engine rattle I haven't been able to track down. After an exhaustive upper engine investigation and replacing several things, it's still there. So, on to the lower end.

what did you wrench on today??

l It's noy easy pulling an engine by yourself. I think I have a couple new bruises on my arms.

what did you wrench on today??

I'm digging back into the FZ1. I had the head inspected and tested and it all checked out good so that's not the culprit for my engine noises. I'm also replacing clutch plates but I'm pretty sure there's no issues there. I'm starting to think I have rod bearing problem(s) which will NOT be fun.

    Clutch plates

Yes, three different ones but I can only find a difference between the one plate that goes on first and all the others. The first one has a larger inner diameter than the rest. I went ahead and ordered all new plates OEM. Springs are still in spec so I'm not wasting anymore money. Clymer says...

    Clutch plates

Last year I installef the cam chain tensioner incorrectly and it was way too tight. Ended up shredding the intake side chain guide and there was ground up plastic and some metal shavings everywhere. I'm guess some shavings got in there.

    Clutch plates

Inspected my clutch plates from my 2001 FZ1 and, while they are within spec WRT thicknesses and flatness, there is some damage to some of the pressure plates. See pic. Also, there is a place where the bonded coating has worn off. Should I replace the set?

loose damper springs in clutch basket

I guess I should have said this is from my 2001 Yamaha FZ1. I just noticed that the ones with slop have 1 less winding than the two that are tight.

loose damper springs in clutch basket

Has anybody ever put washers for shims in there to take up the slack in damper springs that can slide back and forth? If so, what keeps them from flying out? What else can be done. Or, is it even a concern? Thanks.

Welcome to the site. That blue one is absolutely frickin' beautiful! How much for it?

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

My advice, Mr. Noreg, is to go get a car. Motorcycle riding is fun, but that just sounded miserable to me.
