DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Is the swingarm on my '83 1100E stock?

I'm not much of a tire knower and I haven't checked the spec. I'll try to get the numbers off it tomorrow. I ended up just picking up a pair of 2" galvanized mending plates and used that to hang the pipes below the stock mounting holes. I'm a little concerned they might drag if i hit a corner...

Is the swingarm on my '83 1100E stock?

OK, I'm inclined to agree it looks like the same swingarm as y'all have. That's a relief, thanks guys! Baatfam, you're right the chain needs a little TLC... I've put somewhere between 1 and 2 miles on this beast since I picked it up at the start of the summer, so it hasn't been at the top of my...

Is the swingarm on my '83 1100E stock?

I acquired a stock exhaust system off an '82 1100, on the understanding that it should fit on the '83. After attempting to install it today, I learned that while the right-side pipe fits well, the left-side pipe runs into the lower mounting lug for the left-side shock on the rear swingarm and...

Risks running pod filters in wet weather?

Thanks for the advice y'all! It sounds like I shouldn't worry about it too much. I ended up buying a set of those APE filters, i'll keep an eye on the outer ones to see if they're looking a little dry by next spring.

Risks running pod filters in wet weather?

I unfortunately have no shelter. I've been thinking about getting a carport or something to cover my parking area. Until this year the only bike I've had to worry about is a 2014 vstrom, which has taken the rain for years without any real complaints (just some rusty bolt heads on the handlebar...

Risks running pod filters in wet weather?

I'm currently working on rebuilding the carb rack for my '83 1100, and I'm wondering about pod filters. One of its previous owners installed pods, which appear to be Emgos, and at least one is dried out and cracked around the boot. I figured I should replace them now while I'm trying to get...

'83 1100E assorted newbie questions - what am I dealing with?

Y'all have got me wondering now if I understand even less about the ignition system on this bike than I think I do haha I took a short video on my phone to show the component I mentioned in my question 4 above. I thought it was for timing adjustment, maybe someone can tell me what it actually...

'83 1100E assorted newbie questions - what am I dealing with?

Thank you all for the info!! Rob: it's blue, but the body plastics are roughed up (can't see much from a casual walk-by but the side panels are held on with zipties and the tail fairing is cracked and glued at the attachment points) and the tank has some unsightly gouges in the paint... I'm...

'83 1100E assorted newbie questions - what am I dealing with?

Howdy y'all, newbie GS owner here. I picked up an '83 1100E off craigslist recently (not my first bike, but my first GS), and I got hot to trot and started getting myself into a bunch of maintenance items before doing all the research I needed to. For the last few weeks the bike's been sitting...

'83 1100E cylinder bores look machine sanded?

Thanks for all the info! I did not know that this kind of crosshatching is normal, I'm pretty new to engine internals, so it's great to know more! I also did not know that sitting unused for long periods could etch a cylinder wall like this, that's good info as well. I don't know much about...

'83 1100E cylinder bores look machine sanded?

I'm including a google drive link to some additional photos from inside cylinders 1 and 4 that show some more detail, including the scoring and pitting mentioned above.

'83 1100E cylinder bores look machine sanded?

I have a new (to me) '83 1100E that I just yesterday got around to working on. I have a laundry list of maintenance items I intend to do, but yesterday I started with changing oil, filter, and spark plugs. It seems that all of these items had been done relatively recently by the PO, but I...

    '83 GS1100E 4-into-2 exhaust options

Hi, I have an '83 GS1100E that I picked up recently off Craigslist, I've got it in the garage at the moment prepped to do a laundry list of maintenance items (the newbie guides on this forum have been a big help!). The one non-maintenance item on my list at the moment is that I'd like to get it...
