    gs1000 clutch adjustment

It’s got the mid sheath one, but had em both turned in tight. Seems that cable adjustment isn’t my issue with clutch sticking anyway, even turning the actuator with vice grips all the way the bike won’t roll with clutch pulled in gear. I e had clutch all apart and triple checked each piece...

    No blinkers 79 GS1000

Figured it out, was the turn signal control unit on the side of the battery box. Got water in it at some point and fried. Found a solution to bypass it on here. Now need to figure out how to stop the dash indicator light circuit from making all 4 blink at once

    gs1000 clutch adjustment

Hi all, Just putting a 79 GS1000 back together. Feel like i might've gotten something wrong with the clutch. It was making a squealy noise when running, loosened off the clutch cable and it stopped. a bit squealy with clutch pulled in neutral. Not sure if I have the arm in the right...

    No blinkers 79 GS1000

Hi all, Have a GS1000 I'm working on. Just put new blinkers on (LED) but they don't come on at all. I expected they might not flash and need an LED-friendly flasher relay, but they don't do anything. The 'indicator control unit' on the side of the battery box was pretty nasty inside, looks...

    Swingarm Bearings - 1979 GS1000E

Thanks guys! I'll try those dimensions and that part # at the bearing shop tomorrow! We'll see how it goes. Worst case looks like the suzuki ones can be ordered from out of country but I doubt that'll be neccessary.

Turns out the ignition key for the gas cap, it was just rusty and sticky. A bit of cleaning and lube and it’s good to go.

    No spark on any cylinder

Here's a pic of what I've got going on with the tank that came with the bike. you can see the plate covering up where the petcock (originally?) went, and the one that's on it now further back.

    No spark on any cylinder

Ah good to know, thanks for the tip! I noticed the gas tank on my bike is not from 1979, and someone has relocated the petcock further back on the tank. The existing one leaks, was put on with some kind of gasket goop. Amazon sells some pretty cheap replacements so I'll go ahead and get one.

    1979 GS1000 - Clutch issue?

Hi All, working on resurrecting an old GS1000 that's been sitting a long time. I was able to get the bike to run, but noted a loud rattly noise when i let the clutch lever out. It went away with increasing the throttle. On disassembling the bike, i noted that after i took the clutch cable...

    No spark on any cylinder

Sorry to revive an old thread, but finally got around to working on the bike again. Bad voltage was fixed by some good cleaning of the wiring harness. However, the real culprit was that the points plate was cracked and grounding out! An amazon electric ignition fixed the issue and bike now...

    No spark on any cylinder

Hey guys, Sorry it took me so long to check on things, haven't had much time for the bike lately. Popped the cover and the bike still has the original points ignition. I was grounding the plug, but maybe not the right way. The threads should be touching the outside of the engine block while...

Hmm, haven't checked! I'll have to pop the cover off and have a look to see whether its original points or if someone put in a Dyna-type ignition.

    No spark on any cylinder

Hey all, Working on Resurrecting at 79 GS1000E. After cleaning up the inside of the ignition switch and wiggling the fuses around, i managed to get the oil/neutral light to come on and the bike will turn over. However, it would not start. I removed a plug and when inserting the loose plug in...

New member from Canada with an old GS1000, hoping to bring it to life

Ah interesting! I did note that there seems to be a hole for the original petcock position covered up by a piece of metal, and the current petcock is mounted further to the rear! I should take a pic in case I ever need to rebuild it, i'll know what kit to buy if its not from a '79

New member from Canada with an old GS1000, hoping to bring it to life

It says '79 on the tag! Just realized I have no key for the fuel cap, ignition key doesn't seem to fit. Any tips to remove without key? It seems new ones can be had if I can get this one off.

    Aftermarket Seat options for a 79 GS1000E

Ah nice! I actually bought the seat for my GL1000 from these guys through ebay I believe, I'm pretty happy with it. Need a foam pad for longer trips as it's quite hard, but it sure looks sharp! I may go with the brown leather option to give this bike a different look.
