DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Wheel assembly question

Why not, with that inspection interval you will notice wear long before it becomes an issue.

    GS450 to 500 swap questions

Are you familiar with the Concours ? The fuel leak issue you mentioned rings alarm bells ! The carbs on this bike do not have an overflow pipe, often causing hydrolock when fuel leaks, which can cause serious damage. Steve Sefsick from Florida modified them for customers, adding overflow tubes...

    1983 gs1000

Take this as a learning experience. Could have checked if the engine is seized by putting it in 5th gear and bumpstart or putting it on the centre stand and turn the rear wheel. Maybe take out the plugs to make that easier. Bumpstarting might even have started the bike.

    GS650 Aftermarket Electronic Ignition

You got it. The ignition assemblies are the same, but the magnetic rotors are different heights and the magnet positions are a touch different. Make sure your mechanical advancer unit, KD or ND, matches the ignition you order.

    GS650 Aftermarket Electronic Ignition

I prefer the Dyna over old igniters. There are cheap knockoffs for sale, have not heard of one fail yet. https://www.ebay.com/itm/185963710462

    Delayed/ No Throttle response

Also, check out the troubleshooting page 48. Several things mentioned you can check. That brings us from fuel to electronics. The igniters on these bikes are prone to failure, could be because of a bad battery, corroded wiring loom, failing charging system, etc. You may be in for a lot of work...

    Delayed/ No Throttle response

Could be. This is a good moment to document how both screws are set : (engine off) screw them in, counting how many turns until lightly seated. Then start experimenting with running engine and see how the engine reacts. A Colortune would be nice, so you can see how the engine is really doing. I...

    Delayed/ No Throttle response

Just saying, you have 5 or more threads related to carbs not idling. I tend to avoid those because i do not like re-reading all them threads to answer to one of them.

    77 gs750 fuse holder question

that is an accessory panel, meant to hook up optional accessories. It is optional, not a protection of your wiring. Focus on nos 10 and 12, you need both.

    Cold Compression 1982 Suzuki GS300L

I agree, but, i would not expect rings to be the issue either. So there we are, and i think the only way to determine what the issue is, is to check things. Valve lash check on a new-to-you machine should be one of the first things to do anyway, and is easier than dismantling the engine to...

    Sync carbs 2 to 3 and 1 to 4 on post 1980 GS1000?

Actual value is not relevant, as long as the settings are the same. What is important, assuming you have a 4-meter set to sync, is that you check each individual meter to the same port (which one is not important) Connect the 4 sync hoses to 1 of the sync ports one by one. Hopefully they all...

    Cold Compression 1982 Suzuki GS300L

You can get a digital manual here : https://gsarchive.bwringer.com/mtsac/~cliff/storage/gs/GS250T-300LZ_manual-82.pdf Compression should be way higher. You are measuring with throttle wide open ? For a bike that stood a long time, compression is usually low due to rings sticking. Usually that...
