A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Different seats on GS models

Dirk, i do not know what they ask for those seats, but i know of a very good upholsterer in The Netherlands. If needed they repair your own seat pan, and powdercoat it. Then they can make you the shape like those sport seats and put a new cover on it. Either a cover you send them, or make a new...

    Ultrasonic Cleaner?

no real need, but in hindsight i would of bought one large enough to fit 4 bare carb bodies. Saves 30 minutes each time, doing 2 at a time now. Live and learn ... if i thought it important enough i would buy a bigger one.

    Ultrasonic Cleaner?

I also have the 6L but it's not good for the inner passages, nor does a full carb bank fit in it. And using the "wrong" cleaner in it may turn your carbs dark grey and/or have them corrode quickly (huge amounts of the white/yellow aluminium corrosion) Carb material is different often so it takes...

    Petcock oring

i remember a thread on GSR about that, or maybe in one of the writeups on Brian his site, can't find it now though. IIRC it had the size listed, and also the tip that aftermarket plungers were approx. .5 mm shorter which could be overcome by a slightly larger o-ring.

Have been looking at the impact driver, but it's not clear on the website how to switch from lefty-loosy to righty-tighty ... is it just press and turn like regular impact drivers ? Also, i like the long bits for reaching screws that are in difficult to reach spots (like some inside the GS1000...

81 gs1100e - track day tuning -mid throttle

Ha, that's cool, i used to have an EX500. (2-cylinder, 4-stroke) The difference could hardly be bigger between the EX500 and GSX1100. You should ride both, the EX500 steers razorsharp compared to the 1100 and allows mid-turn braking and course corrections where the 1100 likes it better if you...

When do you expect ev bikes to become practical road bikes.

I think what people regard as "practical" is what makes answers differ - i think we are almost there, for some we are there already. Had colleagues that only wanted a quick and cheap way to commute, less than 100 km one way. Several bikes offer great solutions for that. With 300-500 km range...

    Problem with a 1987 Suzuki GS 450 L

Welcome ! Could be a number of things, but one of them is the gas cap. There is a tiny hole in that cap that allows air in, otherwise the tank sucks vacuum and gas will not flow to the carbs. Check if that hole is open. When it happens again, open the gas cap. You may hear a hissing sound...

    GS750 compression

ok. Most important lesson when troubleshooting, is not jumping to conclusions and dismissing possible causes. You are doing both. First, you dismissed Ed's advice. You also dismissed my advice about the number 3 hose because you were convinced the carbs are not the problem. Should have tried it...

    GS750 compression

Is one of the 3 carb sets you tested from that GS1000 perhaps ? Number 3 has the vacuum hose, coincidence ? Is that connected properly and not leaking ? What happens if you squirt a tiny bit of gas or brake cleaner into that hose while running the engine ?

    GS750 compression

How do you determine "good" spark ? I have seen plugs spark nice and strong, but turned out to be broken. What else have you tried ? Did the bike ever run right for you ? pssst .. may want to rethink dismissing advice from an experienced guy like Ed ;)

    Engine bolts

Like Ed said : look at the OEM numbers. Bolt number 9 is 01550-06407. Look at the second part of that number : 06407 The first 2 digits, 06, means 6mm or M6. The second 2 digits, 40, mean 40mm.

Front brake reservoir O-ring size and material ?

yes i am Rich, for 1 bike i would not have bothered but for a 20 piece project like this it means 500$ vs 20-some $. That's not pocket change for me ;)

Front brake reservoir O-ring size and material ?

Have you checked Ebay recently ? There are dozens of ads for them ... https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4432023.m570.l1313&_nkw=59686-33600&_sacat=0

Front brake reservoir O-ring size and material ?

Does anyone know the material and size of the large o-ring for the front brake cylinder ? OEM nr. 59686-33600 I need to rebuild approx. 20 of them, and prices vary between 10-25 bucks a piece. Size looks to be approx. 50mm dia, 2mm thick, but i have only old ones. I can find these in Nitrile...

    losing spark

If 1 and 4 are running right, you could switch plugs with 2 and 3, if the problem switches to 1 and 4 it's the plugs.
