A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Good modern tire size option for GS650G?

Hi All, Making steady progress on my GS650G revival, I'm ready to order up some tires for it. Front seems straightforward: 100/90-19. Now for the rear, I see many people relent and simply install a wider 130/90-17. This gives the widest range of options and per my understanding should not...

    Hello from Indianapolis IN

Hi All, I've been hanging around for a few weeks now, thought I might do one of these intro threads finally. I've been on a motorcycle since I was 15 when my brother and I dragged a ratty free XS400 Special II home in the back of his van to tinker with. One thing lead to another, we soon had a...

new front tire, fork seals: Low speed front tire "hop," very smooth at other speeds

Just chiming in to confirm that my tire hope woes are solved with that reseating. Went ahead and mounted a new rear Shinko 712 as well, made sure to pay attention to seating on that as well. Dead smooth from 0-90+ mph.

new front tire, fork seals: Low speed front tire "hop," very smooth at other speeds

Welp, I was definitely overthinking this one. Just not seated right. I was able to deflate, put some tire soap solution around the bead, inflated to about 50psi to reseat it evenly. Will test ride to confirm the fix. I feel silly to have even made a thread about this, though I'm surprised...

new front tire, fork seals: Low speed front tire "hop," very smooth at other speeds

I strongly suspect that this is what happened. I will say messing with tire mounting is one of my LEAST favorite DIY jobs on motorcycles! Off hand, do you know how high a tube type tire can be inflated to properly seat a bead? I've always shied away from taking it very high on tubed setups.

new front tire, fork seals: Low speed front tire "hop," very smooth at other speeds

Hmm, "tension" in the forks, what exactly does that mean? Preload in the fork springs set wrong or something else?

new front tire, fork seals: Low speed front tire "hop," very smooth at other speeds

new front tire, fork seals: Low speed front tire "hop," very smooth at other speeds Hi All, I have a bit of a new one (for me): I mounted up a fresh Shinko 712 front tire on my '81 GS1100E last week, did a static balance on it, everything seemed to go fine. Out on the road at speed this thing...

what did you wrench on today??

Will do! We're starting out from Pennsylvania Furnace Friday July 8 and riding out to end up over at Kettle Creek State Park by the end of the day where we camp overnight, last year on the ride home we ended up getting lunch at the Kavkaz restaurant east of Logantown off the I80 exit there...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Very nice Redman, I've got a Michigan ride planned out for next year. Used to camp up in Ludington with my wife when we first met. I did an early AM shakedown ride on my '81 1100E to catch the sunrise. It'd been a while since I've done one of these... should have dressed a bit warmer. Bike...

what did you wrench on today??

Nice. I ended up buying a cheap bag of 3mm ball bearings on Amazon for $6. I did also loose a spring for the side to side turn signal detent so it's not working quite right at the moment, but functional enough for now. Boy was it a bear to get back together with the wiring still hanging off...

what did you wrench on today??

Was trying to fix my wonky turn signals on my 1100E, took the turn signal switch apart to clean the contacts only to have it fly apart scattering the tiny springs etc across my garage floor. Found everything(?) put it back together carefully, as i was trying to reinstall the same thing happened...

Horrible clicking-knocking-clatter 15 miles after changing stator.

Close call! Glad you got it sorted out right on location. There are certainly coincidences, but 9 times out of 10, any time a new issue crops up immediately after something else was changed/disturbed recently, chances are it has something to do with the recent repair/change.

The GSR: The last of the great forums?

I spent close to a decade on various forums, car and motorcycles ones (but never GSR in any capacity) before moving on due to a shift in interests 10 years or so ago. Have dabbled in Facebook and twitter and I think have now come full circle and am very glad to have found GSR in particular...
