A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Wandering Idle Set Screw?

More updates! Spring came in and was installed. Adjusting the set screw took a little bit of time, but I managed to get it bang on 1200 RPM when warm. Went for a 2 hour ride yesterday and the idle stayed constant the whole way, no increase in idle when sitting in traffic or after riding hard...

    Wandering Idle Set Screw?

Well alright then... The leak has been fixed. I think. The carbs were reseated, and I used some liquid silicone to seal the edges of a rubber boot that was loose in the airbox and rotated really easily. No changes to the RPM when I used some starter fluid around the boots and carbs. But when I...

    Wandering Idle Set Screw?

Updates! I do indeed have a vacuum leak, though only a small one. Spritzing the carbs down one after another with starter fluid gets me a 250 rpm increase for 5 seconds after hitting the outer left carb. My idle screw is adjusted to 1600rpm cold and idles as 2000rpm when warm. Honestly, it's...

    Wandering Idle Set Screw?

It's interesting that you mention the carb intakes LAB3, as I was checking over it the other day and noticed that the boot on the airbox currently does not cover all of the metal of the carb intake. I'll have to fiddle with the airbox extension to get it sitting more evenly on the carb intakes...

    Wandering Idle Set Screw?

Hey All! Over the last couple of weeks, I've been very happy to be back on my bike for the season! However, I have been reminded of an issue that I had in the Fall but wasn't sure what to do with. My idle set screw seems to be unbalanced; whichever side of 1500 RPM I set the idle to, the crew...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Went for a ride down to Penticton to meet up with some friends for a ride! I just followed them while I was down there, but we went down towards Oliver and through Willowbrook to Marron Valley and back up to Penticton. Lots of fun, but not many opportunities for photos. Not a long enough ride...

First Bike, First Drop, First Close Call

I'd done that already for my shake down run, this was the ride after that. After the shake down I wanted to do a lengthier ride. It was in a low traffic area, but there was still traffic unfortunately.

First Bike, First Drop, First Close Call

The bike is running well, but something odd has come up that I'm hoping is as easy a fix as I think; There's quite a bit of smoking on startup and warmup, and fuel consumption is higher than expected. In keeping with lesson #2, I checked out possible causes on my bike and I think it was because...

First Bike, First Drop, First Close Call

I'm also glad I'm okay. I'm very thankful that the biggest casualty of the incident is scuffs on my leather riding pants, but they'll serve as a nice reminder of possible issues, I think. The damage to bike was...minimal indeed. The stator cover got rounded out a bit where it is molded to...

    Stator and R/R Replacement on a 650G

The new R/R came in on Wednesday of last week. The quick test showed better results but not perfect. Quick test results are as follows: 1) Key Off - 12.48 2) Key On - 12.21 3) idle 1500 RPM - 12.62 4) at 2500 RPM - 13.53 5) at 5000 RPM - 14.04 6) Key off - 12.52 All voltages are on the low...

First Bike, First Drop, First Close Call

On Sept 22nd, 2023 I found out that somebody had shoved horseshoes up my ass when I wasn't looking. After finishing my repair of my charging system and my shakedown to check that it was indeed working with no odd surprises, I put the tool tray back in (this will be important later) and was...

    Stator and R/R Replacement on a 650G

While this thread is technically for my benefit, I have no problems sharing my experiences in this thread. During my experience outlined in this thread, RMStator has been great. Their best customer service has been over their CS phone lines but they've helped me with part selection and while...

    Stator and R/R Replacement on a 650G

Yes, I did mean the Reg/Rec. I've updated the post to reflect what I actually meant. Thanks for catching that!

    Stator and R/R Replacement on a 650G

Yes, I did bypass the wiring that went up to the hand controls. The overheating harness will not be an issue. That being said, I did reuse the whole of the old R/R harness to go into the new R/R, including the ground wire that is meant to ground on the R/R's mounting bolts; I've seen some...

    Stator and R/R Replacement on a 650G

Stator and R/R from RMStator have been installed! Quick test results are as follows: 1) Key Off - 12.91 2) Key On - 12.25 3) idle 1500 RPM - 13.18 4) at 2500 RPM - 13.25 5) at 5000 RPM - 12.28 6) Key off - 12.98 So, good news and bad news! Good news: Bike runs and charges, so no...

A Late Introduction from Kelowna BC

My bike is having some trouble starting first thing in the morning, but it's in a carport tent that seems to be colder than ambient in the morning for some reason... 9C ambient this morning, but felt like 6C in the tent. Just had to walk it out into the sun for a couple minutes and it started...

    It's ALIVE!

Hello from another newbie! Your bike looks pretty cool. The tape and ammo cans definitely give it a Mad Max sorta vibe. As much as I love a properly restored bike, there's something to be said for having something you're not afraid to get dirty or thrown around and possibly lay down

A Late Introduction from Kelowna BC

It's not quite functional yet, I still have to actually replace the parts of the charging system. But that should be done within the week, so I'm excited! She definitely passes the 10-foot judgment, but you get up close and her paint starts showing it's age, never mind the chrome! But...

A Late Introduction from Kelowna BC

Hello! Some of you know me already, as I've already posted a couple times to get some help for my bike. It occurred to me today that I hadn't introduced myself yet, so I'm here to rectify that. I'm a new rider and after borrowing a friend's Rebel 500 to get my licence, I picked up a 1981...

    Starting issues

If your issue was your R/R it likely that your stator has been cooked as well. But if you're doing the SH775 mod then you'll be eliminating the main stressor on the stator, being the R/R dumping excess current into the coils to be dissipated as heat. If replacing the R/R makes the charging...
