A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

81 gs550T wont start after valve adjustment... very confused

You should start a new fresh thread about the drag encountered when advancing the engine. That's not a good sign. Put the new thread in the 4 Cylinder Engine Section. If the chain somehow jumped and the cams got out of time, it could cause piston to valve contact or other problems as well as...

    Balancing

If the butterflies are all adjusted a little too far open during the sync, is it possible the idle screw just doesn't have enough travel to bring the idle down? I have no idea about the play in the individual adjusters allowing them to move up and down.

81 gs550T wont start after valve adjustment... very confused

Definitely sounds like it is turning over strong. Are the plugs bone white which would indicate lean (lack of fuel)? You could spray a little starter fluid in the intake just to see if you could get it to fire although many don't like to use that. I will use it judiciously occasionally. If...

81 gs550T wont start after valve adjustment... very confused

If the petcock is left on prime, fuel will flow to the carbs and unless the needle jets (fuel inlet valve) are strong, gas will seep by and eventually flow through the intakes and past the pistons down into the crankcase. If there is too much fluid (gas and oil) in the system, the pistons...

81 gs550T wont start after valve adjustment... very confused

It would seem a carb issue wouldn't keep the engine from turning over. Is the battery strong? Sounds like the starter isn't engaging. If it was, and the engine wouldn't turn over, the starter probably wouldn't spin either. Also, is there any chance fuel has leaked into your crankcase...

Pilot screw turns: the saga continues

https://www.dynojet.com/amfile/file/download/file/acff4cee39d73e68d2599c62df133721/product/3652/ Wow, looks like they're using 130 Dynojet which would equal 122.5 Mikuni. Is there any chance your pods are really unrestrictive?

Pilot screw turns: the saga continues

Yeah, I could have it backwards as far as which is bigger at the same number. Somehow I inferred that from post 61. Searching back, it seems maybe its .9375 times Dynojet=Mikuni. He!!, I'm confusing myself but at least maybe ,9375 is the factor used in some way to convert.

http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/images/carbspec_float_height.html If you scroll to the very bottom of the page linked, there is a link to a chart to convert DynoJet to Mikuni. Unfortunately, the link is not working but the conversion factor seems to be .9375. So...

    carbtune question/s

http://members.dslextreme.com/users/cbsaunders/gs/carb-balance.pdf #3 is the master carburetor. Adjust 2 to match 3, then do 4, then 1. (I think that's the order.}. When you change one, another previously adjusted one will move. You have to fiddle with them and keep a fan running on your...

Cant get my valves to measure right

Any chance you are sometimes getting oily gauges stuck together on the times your measurements are going from 8mm to 12mm. I've had 2 feelers stick together a few times.
