A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Query on Cam chain Tension adjustment

Ooh and $304??? WTF???? Why wouldnt you just overhaul your existing one for about $6 and 3/4 hour labour?? If money is no option then why not have someone else fit it for you?? I recently cleaned the tensioner on my friends '82 GS850 after he rode 200km to visit me. He told me that he had...

Query on Cam chain Tension adjustment

How old is the motor?? How many Km (or miles) on it?? It is also likely that your cam chain is in need of replacement and the tensioner could be at its outer limit which will also lead to other issues such as rapid wearing of the chain guides... When I got my bike I soon stripped the motor...

Have pods? What do you do with the breather hose?

i like to run them into the carbs as they add a bit of upper lube to the top end. I did originally have mine into a catch can though because i was being jazz, but one time when i was working on a mates speedway car he had an old fuel injector rail laying there which just happened to be almost...

Only runs when fuel is on Prime

Yes, I was going off what you said that it ran ok when on PRI.... Check the points and condensor but the best thing you can do is to ditch them and get an electronic ignition setup! You will rarely have to touch the timing again! the plugs willl stay wet if there is no spark, carbon...

if it runs OK on the PRIME position then it HAS to be to do with your fuel tap, or the vacume source..... Go back to what you said in your post and think about it :) It cant be anything else because you said:

What are the differences between VM, BS & CV carbs?

Thanks for the reply's everyone! I noticed that some 1000's had the VM26's but surely the VM29's would flow more air? I also know first hand through 20+ years of mechanical work, that loads of things have been done to internal combustion engines of all sorts, from small garden product...

    VM29's on '77 GS750 with wiseco 850bb kit

Hey Coady, when I stripped my 750B I discovered that it had already been 850'd using Suzuki 850 pistons. It was a real half arsed job though, they didnt use the 850 gasket, several rings were upside down, and the Orings on the bottom of the barrels were non existant, it also had a "kit" stuck...

    VM29's on '77 GS750 with wiseco 850bb kit

Ummmm. I decided I will change it back to the airbox (with a K&N) in the next few weeks. I do loads of highway riding and often in the rain and I have noticed that the 1&4 filters are often either dry or saturated with water from teh rain. I have noticed that when this happens the bike...

What are the differences between VM, BS & CV carbs?

Hi all, just wondering if someone could give me a quick run down on these 3 styles of carbs, and their pro's and cons. VM, BS & CV's I have a GS750B fitted with an 850bb wiseco kit, and just got to thinking, maybe I should replace the VM26 carbs with the CV's from the 850G?? I read in the...

    VM29's on '77 GS750 with wiseco 850bb kit

Gday all, I have recently had the pleasure of receiving my "newest" GS750 workshop manual (haynes first edition) Reading through there and noticed a page in the back section on performance enhancements which says to stick the VM29's on and it will really run nicer, especially with the 850+ bb...

    GS750E (1978?) forks onto GS750B (1977)

Nice looking bike there OzJavelin :) Ok, from what I have researched, and my fork tube comparison chart it looks to me like yours is the GS-750EC In Australia, the compliance tag date from that era does not mean the actual year it was made, just the date it was complianced in Aus. Later (I...
