A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New bike in the garage...need a little help with what model it is....

The other thing too is the production serial numbers that are out there are only preproduction guidelines from Suzuki. My chassis number shows about a hundred before the 78 cutoff but engine number a few hundred into the 79 numbers. The chassis or engines where not actually built sequentially...

New bike in the garage...need a little help with what model it is....

My 1000 has a date of July 78 and it's definitely an early production 79. I don't think Suzuki would be producing same year models as late as July.

Thanks Steve. Yes, I've been very fortunate to be able to live here. Moved here as young man 45 years ago with the intention of staying 2 years on a work assignment. 3 1/2 years later when they discovered I was still here they wanted me to transfer back to the big city. Fooled them again...

Will prime work with reserve fuel level?

Yes it will. Prime draws fuel from the reserve fuel tube on the fuel tap.

    Needed Petcock 1980 GS750E

#4. They also changed the mount spacing to 40mm from 44mm (IIRC ) so they aren't interchangeable between tanks.

    Needed Petcock 1980 GS750E

Actually, after a bit of tweaking my gauge is pretty accurate. I thought they went to that fuel tap because on the 1980 1000E/S with CV carbs the old style gauge with the lever interfered with the carb caps and probably the same with the early 750/1100's.

    Carb-airbox boots won't stay on?

Thanks for tip. My GS1000 airbox fits a bit funky so this winter I'll check that out. As for the Japs not thinking about it I don't I think they thought we be riding these things 40-45 years later. LOL

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Went for a nice ride couple of days ago with some buddies to one of my favourite places. Kootenay Pass in south eastern BC. About 100 miles from the house. Great scenery in the summer, brutal in the winter though. 20240822_112218 by soates50, on Flickr 20240822_113034 by soates50, on Flickr

    1100 630 chain slack problems

Problem with not changing sprockets at the same time as a worn chain is that the new chain doesn't properly fit the worn sprockets. Especially the rear being a larger sprocket. What happens because of the chain not seating properly in the sprocket is you get tight spots when the rides high on...

    Friday afternoon safety meeting.

Nice. Which way are you headed? Curious whether or not you can make down here or not. Personally I'd get out of the area as temps are going well into the 30s C this week.

Pick up ride to Fort Kent

I've done a number of 1,000 mile days, the last one was on my GS1000. Great seat, definitely an all day motorcycle. Looks like you've got it pretty much figured out. The only thing I do different is every gas stop get off for at least 5 minutes. Last one was in 85F - 90F temps so I was...
