A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Due to an extremely hot dry summer with smoke and fires all around us I didn't get out much all summer. We did however just get back from some travel east of us in the prairies for a change from the mountains around us. Prairie Scene- Saskatchewan by soates50, on Flickr Great Sandhills -...

Great shot Dave. It's all about timing. By the shape of the snout and position of ears I'd guess mink as well. I wouldn't think river otters arch their back like that either. Could be wrong on that though.

Summer riding in BC and the Kootenays

Sounds like agreat trip Trevor. How far east/south are you guys getting this years? I was thinking I need a day ride up through the parks and check out the new TCH construction.

    Charging Guru Needed

I guess 65vac isn't enough to charge properly. Installed the new stator this evening and got 80vac. All is well. Any stators I've seen fail in the past looked WAY more crusty than that one and with no doubt failed any tests. Live and learn as they say. That one did last quite few years. I like...

Well that's disappointing. Old stator looks fine. New one arrives tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. Could still be failing under load from a broken wire but it's not burnt and it did test OK with no load however. Stator by soates50, on Flickr

That's how I wired the new one. Probably time to stop being a cheap prick and spend some money. The current stator and R/R have given me about 15 years and 50,000 kms of trouble free use though. We'll see what happens after the new stator.

My thoughts exactly and ordered up a new one. I thought also possible is a new defective (aka cheap) R/R. I'll find out when the new stator arrives. Yeah, maybe put the reliable old Honda one back in. Just kidding.

Problem is bike (GS1000N) is only charging just over 12 volts (12.2 - 12.4). Just enough to maintain the battery so the bike is rideable without actually discharging the battery. 1.) Stator. It's got an old aftermarket stator, not sure which brand because I it got off an old parts bike. Yellow...

    Chain and sprokets '79 gs1000e

I converted to 530 after having a fancy RK xring chain wear out suddenly and prematurely at 20,000 kms while on a trip. Never had that happen before ....ever after many years of running various oring chains on various motorcycles. Managed to limp home because overnighting somewhere and finding...

Hard to start when cold; vs hard to start when warm

A '78 means it could still have points and condensers. Bad condensers as well as points could also contribute to hard starting among other poor running gremlins. I'd make sure all basic maintenance is up to date before second guessing what the problem is.

    Headed to Ontario...on a Honda...yikes

I'm sure you'll enjoy the trip, even if it is on a Honda. Are you going to be overnighting in the Bonner's Ferry area?

Finally back on the road again

Could possibly do something like that for a couple of days. Summer is pretty booked up but I'm sure we'll figure it out. August and mid week would be better for me. Let's work on it. PM me.

Thanks Bob. Just started playing with my ND filters and it was a 50 sec. exposure. Probably only needed 20 sec. or so for the same effect. I like the results as well. More experimenting to do.

Here's a few more from our recent trip. Saw lots of eagles but not much else unfortunately. Even did a 3 hour kayak trip and didn't see any whales, orcas or even dolphins. Others did, just not me. First an American Bush Tit. Boring little bird with a funny name but one of the few in North...
