I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

HELP PLease: GS650G valve clearance HUGE!!! 3.00 shim and has 14 thou clearance

We opened it a couple days ago. I found both valves bent. The questionable head we are robbing parts from to fix the known decent one. As I was pulling seals since we had the head apart I had 2 snap off at the circlip line. Now i'm replacing valve guides we are checking all the specs on the...

    1100G low compression, burns oil.

Low compression issue you have already found. The compression check and putting oil in the cylinders defined you need at least rings at least. Valve spring compressors run 20-40+. I believe the GS uses 30mm adapter for the springs. I'm getting ready to do a GS650 head and hope to have a spring...

    caliper upgrade

I read that the Brembo F08 calipers could bolt directly on a 1000. The F08 has twin 38mm pistons. Am I misguided? AFAIK the caliper bolt patterns are the same between 79- and 80+

HELP PLease: GS650G valve clearance HUGE!!! 3.00 shim and has 14 thou clearance

Orginal head Orginal head I pulled the top end off the "black" engine due to a bad #2 rod knocking. The engine ran well with consistent compression across all 4 cylinders 155-165psi. I pulled the silver topend due to bad rings on #2 cylinder and air leaking into the intake of #4 during a...

HELP PLease: GS650G valve clearance HUGE!!! 3.00 shim and has 14 thou clearance

My son and I swapped a topend from 1 engine too another. When we pulled the buckets out of the head they all got rearranged. We slid them into the head and have 2 valves I can't get within spec. #3 and #1 exhaust vales are out; one measures 34 and other measured 25 thou over a 2.65 or so shim...

1980 GS1100 Needle jet cross reference

Jetsrus says they can't help. When I was installing the needle jet it got stuck. The NJ has a raised lip ~270* around the top which can be seen when looking into the bore of the carbs. I used a punch to help seat the NJ and flattened the lip. I then used a bench grinder to remove the damaged...

GS650 undersize rod bearings --- any other source than suzuki? Bottom end help please

I tore apart the gs650g my son has due to a rod knocking when we cracked the throttle. I am attempting to scrape pennies at the moment since my wife, son, daughter and son in law are all out of work due to covid. I found the rod journals to be 1.313 or 33.35mm. Journals are supposed to be...

Where to get a training in hobby terms?

I have been looking into getting a hobby level education to learn to paint and repair motorcycle and minor collisions. I have checked with the tech college COTC which doesn't offer an adult course. Is there someplace to learn the skill set? I'm in Newark Ohio about 30 miles east of columbus...

Dont be stupid! Gently tighten straps on the rack.

I've been working on my 85 GS700es. We strapped it on and went to work. We repaired the head and timing chain, performed all maintenance, changed all fluids Then I ran into the rear wheel snag. I have to 2 partial parts bikes. I noticed the rear tire was leaned at the top ~1". I guessed the...
