A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Tire bead question

Regardless of whether the early tubeless rims had a pronouced ridge or not they were designed with a sufficient sealing surface for tubeless tyres and their specific bead design and marked either TL or TUBELESS and i NEVER said these types were at risk of rapid deflation so please do not miss...

    Tire bead question

If the rims are tubeless they will have "TUBELESS" cast on the rim or one of the spokes. If it doesn't say "TUBELESS" then it ISN'T tubeless and you MUST use a tube. NEVER run a tubless tyre on a tube rim without also running a tube. Using a tubeless tyre on a tube rim runs a very high risk of...

    VM26SS issues?

These VM carbs rarely need anything more than 'O' rings , gaskets, choke plunger seals and new fuel mixture screw if the tips are broken. The rest of the internals hardly ever need more than a clean unless physically damaged. The only Kits i would ever buy if not using original Mikuni parts are...

Tuning 1979 GS550 Straight Pipes and Pods

There's no such thing as VM26 smoothbores. Only 29's and 33's of which yours are certainly not. Yours are either VM22's or 24's which are identified by the three horizontal ribs on the slide body and most likely yours will be the 22mm version which are stock on the GS550. The 22's which yours...

Tuning 1979 GS550 Straight Pipes and Pods

More likely to be VM22's on the 550. Either way i make the air correctors and provide jetting recommendations for all VM22,24,26,28 and 32mm 4 cylinder carb banks as well as for the Mikuni CV's.

    VM22 Carb nightmare

What pods are those ? Any decent pods should flow around the same as an open carb so set the bike up with them removed to rule out any restriction or masking of the air passages. With those air correctors all the jets and settings should be returned to stock except for an increase of the mains a...

    Dyna S rev limiter?

The Dyna 'S' does not have a rev limiter built in. Swapping coils, plugs, leads and power feeds etc and the issue remaining on the left cylinder proves that the problem is not the ignition system but likely carburation.

GS700E won't start when cold runs rich on choke

As advised in my earlier post.. One or more of your plugs are oil fouling due to valve stem seal leakage which will cause the hard starting and the need for excess use of the throttle to fire.. The white smoke is the oil being burnt off and clearing the fouling. Depending on the severity of the...

GS700E won't start when cold runs rich on choke

The white smoke is excess oil burning off. Most likely the valve stem seals are shot and need replacing.

    Jetting recommendations

You need air corrector jets , Leave ALL other carb settings stock and just increase the mains. I presume your 1000 is an E/G model with 107.5 mains as stock ???

    Is this normal???

Carb bodies are pretty much all the same casting ( usually handed in pairs either left or right ) with the passages drilled to suit their position on the rack . Depending on position some are drilled and some left blank. Some drillings are also dual purpose depending on the intersecting passages...

Wiring for gs 650e dyna s

Yes! The Dyna 'S' is primarily designed as a points replacement that retains the mechanical advancer. Those with electronic ignition that still employ a mechanical advancer can be changed to a Dyna 'S' but in all cases the Dyna is a stand alone system and any existing ignitor or cdi has to be...

Wiring for gs 650e dyna s

The Dyna/Dyna copy is a replacement for points but can replace a factory ignitior/CDI. The Original cdi system would have to be removed entirely and replaced by the Dyna. The wiring for the Copy is the same for the original Dyna. The red lead from the dyna needs a switched live and the lead from...

Specific Japanese motorcycle manufacturer's proprietary rim and matching tires.

No ROAD BIKE was ever equipped with 16.5 inch rims or tyres so you're not likely to buy the wrong size at your local shop.. They were/are RACE USE ONLY ( GP and Supermoto) and came in either slicks or wets/intermediates so initial appearance of no tread or unusual tread pattern would deter an...
