I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    New owner of a 81 GS650G

Yes, just tighten the black “ knurled nut” on cable stem to increase cable drag…avoid lubing this…add sand if needed.

New Coils, no spark at 1 and 4. Narrowed down to CDI (maybe?)

good pickups and good ignition coil won’t help a smoked ignitor. Remember the ignitor just duplicates what a point/condenser setup does …..breaks the connection to coil at proper time to get spark.

Stator and wiring burn out ? - GS 550et 1980

Yes, that’s correct. Getting back to basics, does this new stator have same number of poles as the your old burnt stator? 18?

New Coils, no spark at 1 and 4. Narrowed down to CDI (maybe?)

Ignition coils are tough…..not sure why it cracked but since it’s connected to the ignitor box - a very weak item- the 1&4 part of ignitor would likely be gone. Do you have the stock fuse setup ….or did this get replaced with the 40/30 fuse setup ? Since you have the mechanical advancer setup...

New Coils, no spark at 1 and 4. Narrowed down to CDI (maybe?)

Well, you said it rode nicely before your purchase, so what happened later? while we contemplate this, tell us what ignition system this bike has….there seems to be two OEMs. Remove the signal generator cover, and see if you have a mechanical advancer setup or….

    Mechanic in Massachusetts

Checking valve clearances should be high on your to-do list….they get smaller as miles go by and lots of these critters have seen poor maintenance as they get passed around. Make sure you get the correct valve cover gasket. I’d find a place to do the tires for now…..its not hard, only takes a...

+wire from battery that branches off to starter relay

There’s no red wire that connects to starter solenoid. The positive battery terminal has a big red wire that connects to solenoid and little red wire that connects to the 15 amp fuse…this feeds the key switch, turns on ignition and powers the starter button. The solenoid is triggered by a little...

    Shim kits for valves?

“….have an 82 gs650l. 28 whole miles on it so far.“ 28 miles for bike ?….or just what you’ve put on? wait till you see what shims…if any…you need. As was mentioned, you can often just move them around and only need to acquire a few others. Be careful of valve checking…..have you seen this...

1100G(GK) ignition switch stuck in Park position

Shoot some silicone spray down key…..add heat with hairdryer to free up gunk. Tap lightly on switch body as you attempt to release lock’s grip.

Stator and wiring burn out ? - GS 550et 1980

Let’s back up a bit….. slayer asked…”Do I understand you correctly that you ran the bike until it got warm with the 3 stator wires shorted together and held to ground (earth)?” Did you just miss type? Your regulator is proven ok…based on other bike. But no stator output, so it seem this stator...

    Dim taillight Q?

Work on checking the grounding of the taillight assembly…..for a quick check, run a jumper wire from battery negative to taillight and see if things get brighter.

Stator and wiring burn out ? - GS 550et 1980

Use a jumper wire from positive rectifier output to positive battery terminal…..and see if output compares to how rectifier behaved on other bike. The internal harness connection could have been smoked during your wiring misadventures.

    Won’t start after a wash

Odd….any chance that you fiddled with plug wires and misconnected them? Siting on bike, the left ignition coil fires #1 and #4 plug…right ignition coil does 2 and 3.

    Idle problems

At the very least, you needed to remove all the pilot screws and inspect for damage..broken/blunt tips, etc . Just turning them out like you did, might have found a “sweet spot” on one or more of the carbs and let it idle ..but it falls flat as you feed it throttle….. pilot circuits have to be...

    1982 Suzuki GS 650G

Did you ever see the movie “A Bridge Too Far” ? I admire ambition, but this might be a sequel . Did previous owner reveal bikes running condition before the accident? engine parts for the 650 shafty are tough to find new…..other stuff not too bad though on used market. My 650L has been very...

    Won’t start after a wash

So in neutral with starter fluid it will start….but no umph, so likely running on just one or two cylinders. When it starts and runs in neutral, touch the exhaust on each pipe and determine which cylinders are firing.

    Won’t start after a wash

I’d guess the connections from to/from ignitor got wet…causing a mistimed spark. The two wire connector from signal generator seems a good candidate. Park in sun to dry out

GS700E won't start when cold runs rich on choke

Sounds like your “ choke” circuits aren’t enriching …each carb body has to scoop fuel off bowl bottom thru a little pipe which can easily get clogged and carry it to carb throat .. sounds like you did a good cleaning though. opening the throttle during cranking defeats the “ choke” designed intent.

    79 850g stuck on highbeam

Odd, did you try a different bulb? these left hand switches have different style connectors (under tank) …so a used one might not be plug and play. They surface on eBay all the time.

    Idle problems

Those pilot screws are preset at factory at 2.5 turns off bottoming, but they get capped to prevent tampering..at least over here. 2 to 3 turns out is normal for good running. If yours are way off, maybe someone screwed up. But there’s always the chance that the tiny points on these screws are...
