A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    GS1000 valve seats

The stainless vaives are exactly the same dimensions as the stock valves. In the FSM it says it is permissable to grind upto 1mm off the tips of the valve. It does sound a lot but even with 0.8mm ground off, the tip of the valve is still above the valve keepers, by 0.2mm. The keepers sit proud...

    GS1000 valve seats

So i had the valve seats recut, now i need to get the tips of the valve stems ground. To get me in the middle of the shim range (2.50 - 2.60) i need to get 0.8mm ground off the tips of the valves. They are not stock valves, they are plasma coated stainless valves. Does 0.8mm sound excessive? I...

Spoiler Alert: MotoGP (or any other race) thread for immediate disscussion of races.

Personally i think Marquez's career is going to be a very short one. He wants the fame, results and cult following that Rossi had (has), but he is doing himself far too much damage trying. Despite what he thinks, he is not an invincible super hero and sooner, rather than later he is going to...

Sounds like an air leak... how about sealant?

As you have replaced the valves, have you checked the valve clearances, and shimmed them to the correct service limit? If the clearances are too tight you will lose compression.

Sounds like an air leak... how about sealant?

Are you 100% sure the camshaft timing is set correctly, and you have checked and adjusted the valve shims to the correct clearance spec.?

    GS1000 valve seats

Took the head to a local engine tuning specialist and they can reface the valve seats on all angles. They will also grind the valve stems as required to restore the shim clearance. I am a lot happier now knowing this, so can crack on and start cleaning up the ports while i wait for new valves...

    GS1000 valve seats

Has anyone had valve seats replaced in a GS cylinder head? A head i am rebuilding has got pitted valve seats on 1 cylinder, there was a lot of corrosion there when i got it so i am guessing the spark plug was left out and the rain or damp has got in. I may be able to get the faces recut but i...

Float height with tubing: individual or together?

Checking the fuel level with this method should be done with the carbs fitted and the engine running, at idle speed. The way you are doing it will not give you an accurate reading. Consult the factory service manual to see the correct procedure.

    Mikuni RS34's on a GS1000G head.

Yes Steve, it was that vendor i purchased them from, they had a good deal on so thats why i chose them. I went for the 34's after a lot of research and asking people what their experience is with them. The main consensus was that the 34's would be much better for all round street fun...

    Mikuni RS34's on a GS1000G head.

UPDATE; seems i read it wrong when i looked into buying them. The RS34-D21-K SERIES i have purchased are indeed 42mm spigot size so they fit perfectly in the stock inlet rubbers. If you are in the UK and thinking of buying a set of these, i purchased a brand new set from a seller in the USA and...

    Mikuni RS34's on a GS1000G head.

    Mikuni RS34's on a GS1000G head.

I am currently building up a spare GS1000G head to fit on my 1085 GS1000. what inlet rubbers do i need to accomodate the RS34's? Stock GS1000G rubbers i believe are 42mm spigot size so will they be to big for the 40mm spigot on the 34's or will they tighten up ok? Is there an alternative rubber...

    Zinc Carb Bodies???

I dont know what alloy it is but its not pure zinc. Yes carbs can be buffed up and polished with aluminium polish or various other metal polishes that are available but its a tricky job on a carb. A dremel with stainless steel wire brushes will shine them up but not the same as a polished...
