A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Removing the cylinder head: Should I leave the oil in, or drain it?

if you are taking the head off, you should take the barrels off as well and replace the base gasket and O rings, otherwise it WILL leak after you reassemble it all, then you will have to pull it all off again.

    R/R Wiring

That makes sense now, thanks Steve. The wiring on my GS1000 is quite "modified". I no longer have an ignition switch, as such, i have a remote ignition switch, which powers a relay, which then feeds the fuse box. I have effectively eliminated the original ignition switch wiring, so the red and...

    R/R Wiring

Can someone please explain why the red + wire from an SH775 should not go direct to battery +.(with an inline fuse) I have had mine wired up this way for a few years now and it seems to work fine, i am just wondering if there is a technical reason why this is incorrect.

    Valve Shims

You are correct. Carb synch and pilot screw adjustment is the very last job to do after ALL the other routine maintenance tasks have been completed, including shims, spark plugs, air filter, ignition timing. (and of course, carb cleaning)

    Shim recommendations

You cannot get a 1.90 shim. The smallest available is 2.10. Any smaller than that and you risk the cam lobe catching the edge of the shim bucket.

How to Polish Raw Magnesium and Aluminum

Haha, well yes there is that but it also produces pretty spectacular sparks should my boot happen to touch the tarmac when cornering. ( actually it does touch, quite often!) EDIT, forget i asked the question. A quick google search shows that Alpinestars sell magnesium toe sliders for their...

How to Polish Raw Magnesium and Aluminum

On the subject of magnesium, has anyone any experience with machining pure magnesium? Not so much milling but a bit of turning, sawing, filing etc. I was thinking of making some magnesium toe sliders for my motorcycle boots. It is cheap enough to buy but googling machining it throws out all...

howmuch out of spec can you go

0.1mm is perfectly acceptable. i set all my clearances on my GS1000 to as close to 0.1mm as i can. I will get shims surface ground to get me where i need to be if i cant get the clearance using stock sized shims
