I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Shunt vs Series R/R

Exactly. That's what I'm trying to get my head wrapped around. It seems (to me) that the shunt type, has the regulator and Rectifier in parallel. So the regulator and rectifier each do their own thing. When the regulator see voltage over a set amount it just sends the current to ground. Thus the...

    Shunt vs Series R/R

With all the discussions with regards to the difference in operation of Shunt vs Series R/R I came across the following postings. (Not that I understand it all, but a long read that is starting to make some sense to me.) Regulator / Shunt verses Series | StromTrooper

Stator and wiring burn out ? - GS 550et 1980

That wiring diagram you attached is too tough for me to read (With my iPad I used to be able to "unpinch" a diagram to expand it but they won't let my iPad access GSResources any more..) I can only suggest that you go to BileCliff's web site and see the factory service manual here...

Stator and wiring burn out ? - GS 550et 1980

Here is how to measure the voltage dropped in your wiring loom between the regulator output and the battery positive post: (You don't have to know the exact route through the wiring loom to measure the voltage dropped in that circuit.) To measure voltage dropped in that circuit there must be...

Stator and wiring burn out ? - GS 550et 1980

UKJULES, on your 1980 GS550, is the rectifier separate from the regulator? If I read the GS550 service manual and wiring diagram in the manual (see BikeCliffs web site) correctly, they appear to be separate units. Pages 124-129 explain how to test each unit of the charging system, including...

Heck, even I remember that! (Mine only had a single narrow red ring.) Used to be we could buy a large crayon like shaped tube would allow you to paint a white rubbery substance on the tires lettering. (Think FIRESTONE).

    Power to coils

What model Boyer Bransden system do you have? Some have specific coil’s that are wired in series A bad coil can leak voltage on the primary side killing voltage to the 2nd coil. Some systems wire the coils in parallel and the ignition box turns the coil on when appropriate. See the Boyer...

    82 1100EZ no headlight power

Wait! You better disregard most everything I posted. Your ‘82 is altogether different from my 1980. I have no idea what that “Check Panel Control Unit” does that I see on some of those ‘82 wiring diagrams. Hopefully a real expert will be along soon.

    82 1100EZ no headlight power

Whoops! My bad. You did say the white and yellow wires have voltage as they leave the dimmer switch, so the dimmer switch is okay. I would next check either side of that Of that 9-pin connector to see if it has power in and power out.

    82 1100EZ no headlight power

Yes. Problem could be within the headlight switch or the dimmer switch. These pins of which you speak: Are you referring to the pins at the headlight, or the dimmer switch, or the headlight switch? Additionally, could you indicate the wire colors of the pins you are referring to, just to be sure...

Never see right voltage charging #'s with sh775 and Lithium

^^^^^^^. what he said! Thank You. If you look at Nessism’s diagram of the recommended way to wire the SH775, or the wiring diagram for most Suzuki’s,, the output of the R/R (the red wire) goes to a junction feeding two parallel circuits. One side of the junction goes through the fuse box and...

Never see right voltage charging #'s with sh775 and Lithium

Nessism, I have a question with respect to your SH775 install picture and the above quote: If say the R/R was cranking out 14V would the R/R know the battery is full and to cut back the charge rate? It seems to me the LiPo4 function of the battery would NOT ALLOW any more voltage into the...

Never see right voltage charging #'s with sh775 and Lithium

Not clear on just which model you are working on, nor just where you are measuring that voltage. I was measuring the voltage at the coil’s on my 1980 GS 750E, and was dropping nearly 2 volts between the battery and the coils. I cleaned many of the connectors on the bike picking up about 0.75...

    Revision of homemade electric diagram

Diirk, I really do appreciate the time and effort you have taken to help me understand your planned wiring diagram in non-technical terms. Revision of homemade electric diagram

I think I am learning something here. But here is where my head is at. When you have the new wiring harness installed and running, place your amp clamp at A and see what direction the current is flowing. If the current is flowing towards the fuse on its way to the battery, then the battery is...
