If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    GS550 Bored 740cc Officially Done!

I believe you can use a 77 - 79 GS750 clutch basket because it has one extra disc & plate than the 550/650, but uses the same parts otherwise. I have one of these engines built & sitting on my workbench, but have yet to swap it, too many bike projects, too little time!

high end 530 o-ring chain, 2 stiff links, minimal stretch... save or replace?

Those things that high performance bikes run to push bikes forward at adrenaline inducing rates!

    Low rpm knocking/clunking

The bike I mentioned probably had about the same miles on it, it had 7,000 when I helped him buy it... Rubber and neoprene o-rings & seals, as well as gaskets only last so many decades before they are compromised, including the o-rings in your original chain. luckily for you the GS 550 came...

    Low rpm knocking/clunking

Inspect the chain real good. I had a buddy's bike making atrocious popping noises after adjusting the chain when he ran it extremely loose for a month or more. turned out the original chain's o-rings fell apart and left a lot of slop side to side in the chain, and the links were going half...

high end 530 o-ring chain, 2 stiff links, minimal stretch... save or replace?

Very nice pieces... Aluminum center & hardened steel outer ring on the Supersprox, lightening holes drilled in the Vortex fronts. Fits Bandit 1200 95-05 & various GSXR and other models as well as a GS750 etc, just not advertised as fitting the older GS models. SuperSprox # RST 816-48-GLD...

high end 530 o-ring chain, 2 stiff links, minimal stretch... save or replace?

Wife is ordering me a new chain... She works for a big internet powersports parts seller nowadays. I'll try & rejuvenate the other chain to free up the 2 stiff links & use on a budget build of a pile of GS750 parts... DID Gold 530VX3 Professional X-Ring Series Chain - 530VX3GX120ZB Had to...

    Low rpm knocking/clunking

Yes, chain stiff links, same problem I'm having. If it does it with bike stationary, in neutral, you need to check camshaft timing IMMEDIATELY

    How much noise is normal?

All of our 2-valve per cylinder shim/bucket valvetrain Suzuki GS's sound like a clickety-clacking sewing machine when running and adjusted. If they get too quiet, you know the valves are all way too tight and need smaller shims swapped.

high end 530 o-ring chain, 2 stiff links, minimal stretch... save or replace?

It really has almost no stretch/wear in it. I suppose I'll keep it and soak it in PB blaster and maybe store it in a tub of used motor oil after that until I build up another project bike GS750/844cc to flip maybe next year... Suggestions on new chain? RK or EK? D.I.D.? I'll probably browse...

high end 530 o-ring chain, 2 stiff links, minimal stretch... save or replace?

Yeah... you guys are gonna laugh at me being a cheap @$$... I exploded my original speedometer when I hit a deer at high speed, and didn't record the starting mileage of the used replacement... but I added up the # of tires I have gone through, and I come up with an approximate mileage of...

    Low rpm knocking/clunking

The noise does not change with RPM changes when in neutral? That is a very very peculiar and odd symptom.

high end 530 o-ring chain, 2 stiff links, minimal stretch... save or replace?

Last year on my 10 day epic trek from central Ohio, zig-zagging through the Appalachians Mountains,Smoky Mountains, and most all National Forests around them in the east etc ending up at Barber Vintage Motorcycle Festival, I started noticing when I am coasting, particularly when I pull in...

high end 530 o-ring chain, 2 stiff links, minimal stretch... save or replace?

I've got an RK or EK etc high end 530 chain that my wife paid $230 for about 8 years ago that is Hayabusa-rated. I have been amazed that the thing is so tough and never seems to wear/stretch, and requires zero adjustments other than what happens by default every 4,000-5,000 miles at rear tire...

HELP PLease: GS650G valve clearance HUGE!!! 3.00 shim and has 14 thou clearance

Not sure on the guides, never done any, but a friend of my buddy Grant's has some valve seat cutting equipment he recently inherited...Jake Smith Motor Works, look him up, ask him if he's got what you'd need. He rents warehouse space from my buddies (who have a giant warehouse filled with bikes...

Base gasket surface sealing after prev.owner gasket scraping ...?

Ahhh yes thank you Ed... I was worried about RTV on oil pressure areas, possibly flaking off & being fed through the oil passages... I believe I have a similar product to Gaskacinch or Hylomar, the really REALLY tacky sticky gasket sealant stuff... Hi-Tack or something similar, from NAPA. I...

    Oil Pressure Light

What he said. Drop the oil pan, and clean the oil pickup filter screen. Pull the switch out and spray it out with some cleaner. I have had a 2 of these "go bad" and I did not bother cleaning them because I have a stack GS engines floor-to-ceiling on pallet racking to pull spares from... Cause...

Base gasket surface sealing after prev.owner gasket scraping ...?

Does anyone have experience with installing a cylinder that had some gasket scraping gouge damage like this? The marks that appear a bit wider are pretty noticeable, they don't look so bad in the photos but are worse in person. Should I just put a dab of RTV silicone in these areas, & smeared on...

Base gasket surface sealing after prev.owner gasket scraping ...?

Keep in mind that these are the outside 4 corner stud areas, and the egg-shaped 2 at the rear double as the primary oil feed passages to the head. The 2 at the front are lesser pressure as they are after half of the oil has been delivered to the valvetrain

Base gasket surface sealing after prev.owner gasket scraping ...?

Previous owner did an impatient hack job on scraping the stubborn/stuck base gasket remnants off, and gouged it out in some areas. Looks worse in person, sorry my cell phone camera lens is very scratched/cracked & can't focus well anymore
