A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Excellent Ebay Deal on 530 O-Ring Drive Chains

I don't think you can have an odd number of links. You would end up trying to connect mismatched ends. So 114 or 116. IIRC 114 is correct.

What is an 81 850L worth nowadays?

Yeah, you can't ponder a decision on a well priced bike very long in riding season.

Amazing how good this GS1100E is

I have had both 80/81, and 82/83 1100e bikes. The later bikes vibrate more. And ALL the e bikes vibrate more than the 2 valve bikes.

You ready to park your GS?

It's not about how it runs. It's about what happens when it is parked for a while, the ethanol has a chance to absorb water, and the resulting corrosion. Ethanol gas runs fine, and really doesn't cause damage in modern FI vehicles because they have corrosion resistant materials.

You ready to park your GS?

Ride every day if possible. Sitting is when it absorbs water from condensation, and corrosion starts soon after. If you keep the gas flowing through it stays fresher. I use Sta-bil 360 at 50% more than the recommended dose in every tank and it seems to help. Pretty cheap in the quart size on...

You ready to park your GS?

There are alternatives. We are a smog test state (until January when testing goes away), and we have ethanol free premium if you know where to look. There are other ways to "oxygenate" gasoline besides Ethanol. Ethanol is the cheapest and most subsidized however. The 15% is courtesy of the farm...

    Valve cover gasket advice

Some will disagree vehemently, but I used a Real Gaskets silicone gasket on my 850 and it is pretty much permanent. You HAVE to follow instructions to avoid compressing the gasket. Bolts finger tight + a little, blue loctite on the bolts. Not for bikes with the tach gear in the valve cover...

    GS850 Perpetual blown fuse

As Steve said, take a good look at the horns. My 850 had an intermittent short that would blow the fuse. One of the horns was rotated a bit and the horn hot terminal was touching the frame bracket once in a while.

    Gas Not Leaving Float Bowls

On CV carbs there is a passage in the float bowl that feeds the choke with fuel. No choke = no start with CV carbs. The orifice is VERY small, maybe .025 inch and easily plugged. Page 51 here: https://thexscafedotcom.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/mikuni_bs-cv_carburetor_rebuild_tutorial.pdf
