A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Wild Weather in the Heartland!

I hope they brought a few rain barrels with them.......full barrels that is. We see rain all the time, but it doesn't hit the ground.

    JB Weld carb?

That float post on my carb was like that when I got the bike, so I'm really not sure what kind of adhesive was used. Maybe as a test you can stick some scrap aluminum together and let it marinate in gas for a while, then try to pull it apart.

    RIP Val Kilmer

I second that. Real Genius is a favorite for sure. My son had a roommate that we hardly ever saw. Every once in a while we'd see him walk by a doorway, but he didn't say anything. The kids didn't understand why I called him Laslo. The movie Top Secret is worth a chuckle. Especially the library...

    Pic of the week game

Gustovh, please. That brings back memories of enjoyable days riding through nowhere'sville, stopping to chat and thaw out my toes. In Datil, NM, a customer says "you guys rebel riders"? Pffft, yeah, sure. On 40 year old Jap bikes, stopping for RedBull and Ibuprofen? Haha

    2025 Brown County GS Rally - June 19 - 22

It's looking fairly promising that I'll be able to head out there this year. Hoping to ride out to Atlanta first and stop in Bedford on the way home. Sure would be nice to take my GK. I outta have enough time to get it ready, but if not I'm sure the 850 could use the exercise.

    Go fund me

Wait, there's a squirrel on gofundme that's raised over $100k so far? How many hopeless souls has he lifted up? I'd like to know of a single down and out rider that friggin rodent has inspired to fight to keep his bike alive? Sheesh, I'll bet he never replied to a single PM about how to free up...

Had to look up what a Stig is. Seems a Brit bike like a Velocette Venom would be a more suitable ride for him. That visor gets pretty dark in bright sunlight. Fortunately at night it's clear. Have to flip it up riding into a tunnel though.

    Carburetors badly out of sync?

These bikes are pretty resilient. It's amazing how badly they can be treated, poorly tuned and neglected but still run. Maybe not run fine, or for long though. A lean condition, for instance, may not be apparent until the headers turn different colors. Spark plugs tell the story before that...

    GS850GL engine year identification

Well, it's definitely from an L. The ignition cover has the DOHC instead of SUZUKI. According to the parts phiche, that tachometer sleeve (part#20) with the plate that holds it in (part #23) was standard in 80 and 81. Starting in 82 you could get the single piece but the older one still shows...

    GS850GL engine year identification

Some differences I've seen in the 850's I've had are: (As mentioned) the additional bolt near the center of the head cover Engine painted black Slightly different oil filter covers cam chain tensioner knob changed from metal to plastic tachometer drive sleeve design went from two piece to...

Is there a 'Tools and Tricks' type thread here? Could be helpful/fun.

I can't think of any single thread for custom tools, but surely you've seen the forum section for tips and tricks. https://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/forum/technical-forums/tips-and-tricks One neat tip in there is to insert a tiny piece of vacuum hose under the nut in your battery terminal...

What a cool pic to be converted to B/W. From my phone's screen it totally looks like water in the background with waves breaking on the rocks just behind your bike.

    Rockauto Discount Codes

I'm not sure how many codes are valid at once, but this one came up in a google search for current rockauto discount code. Saved me $15 on a fuel pump. 294374552228365773
