A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Runs well but plugs are sooty black. Why? (GS1000 G)

I have a 1000G with a Vance and Hines 4-1. When i got it together I went with jets that were 4 sizes larger. Eventually I ended up with Stock main jets and the plugs are perfect color. I also found the air filter was over oiled with K and N red oil by a previous owner, since replaced. Start...

    Suzuki Bond #4, ThreeBond 1194/1184/1207B???

I use Permatex 97. I've never had problems, even glued the two engine halves together with it. As long as the surface is prepped I think it's fine.

    Gear Indicator Lights

The lights work by grounding a little button against the engine and on each little contact in the engine connection. As you shift gears the button moves in a clockwise direction moved by a shaft in the gearbox. 12 volts arrives in the dashboard on an orange wire and powers all the light bulbs at...

where to get a genuine sh-775 series r/r for a good price??

Unless someone can find a way to protect stators from the oil I'm afraid they will eventually fail. Dry stator bikes with the same regulators seem to work ok, as do boats and tractors and they outnumber the GS bikes. Glad to to see you're happy with the RR and I hope it all works out long term...

where to get a genuine sh-775 series r/r for a good price??

Use a SH-232 and it will fit perfectly, have wires already connected, and never fail.

Homemade Tubing to check the Carb Bowl Fuel Levels

I drilled out 4 screws and soldered 1/2 of copper pipe onto them. Not much clearance under there so it has to be short and sweet.

I'm extending my tail lights to make room for bags as well. I'll post pics when I am done.

    1980 GS750 Massively underperforming

Sounds like the slides are not going up. How are the intake boots and clamps? Might be a fuel supply issue too, have you tried it on PRI instead of On or RES?

Pods, Pipes, Panic! (Help! Your Bike has Pods)

I would start with plug readings at speed and see what you get. Before you spend money on a kit determine a few things first. Are the carbs synced? Valves adjusted? Air filters properly oiled? Any intake leaks on the boots? I would start with new plugs since old ones can be hard to read. If...

    1981 1000gl Exhaust questions

Yes, the spacing is different between the 16v and 8v heads. If the header tubes on your pipe are "loose" rather than welded it might work but I would check the flanges to make sure they work as well. I went with a V and H for around 330 bucks and it's a decent pipe. The chrome is so-so with a...

    82' GS850G project bike

That RR looks like one I modified and sold to the previous owner. I shipped hundreds out all over the world. It's interesting to see how they are eventually wired into the bike.

Shaft or Chain... that's the question...

I'm surprised I never weighed in on this thread till now. I've had shaft and chain drive bikes and it's shaft drive from now on. I like the quieter running shaft drive offers, the consistent feel of the shifts unaffected by chain tension. I don't miss the mess nor expense of replacing chains...

82 gs 650 only spark on one coil... HELP

It's not likely the ignitor or coil triggers went bad in storage. I would check the blue and green wires carefully for damage along the entire length (remove from the covering if necessary) and check the resistance to ground. Should be 130 ohms a piece. 1.Do you have 12 volts on the orange wire...

God forbid anyone disagree with Posplyr on regulators, it's worse than a Oil Thread or Chain vs Shaft discussion.

    Charging at 13.5V

The ugly truth may end up being the stator. If the stator can't deliver power under old then it's done. All things considered it's easy to fix compared to other problems and other bikes. With no battery the system should run above 14 volts. You could try starting it then removing the negative...

    Charging at 13.5V

Hamamatsu was a favorite of mine when I lived in Japan. I would give a honda RR a try. The regulator part seems to be an issue And you might have a bad diode out of the 6 causing problems. The oem Regulators are suspect any way

    1980 1000g

Probably the multi function switch on the bars. I lost my lights on I-95 at 70 mph by hitting the high beam switch. I replaced mine with GS650G controls, much better now.

    Points gap nonexistant?

It's also possible to time the bike with a light. Set the crank to the F mark, move the plate until the light just starts to glow and your in. I had to do this once under tough circumstances on my '76 Honda 550 four.
