A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Bad stator on 80 GS1000G

take it out and see if something is grounding it out inside. Might not be toast after all

Simple headlamp relay with start cutout

an easier solution is to use a diode off one leg of the stator to power a relay. This has the added benefit of being used in production on several makes and models of bikes currently. I hooked mine up that way, followed the wiring diagram of a yamaha I had.

    Hagon rear shocks

I have hagons on my 1000G and they seem to be a good match. Of course the bike weighs more than a 550 so that is to be expected. I found progressives on my 650G to be a bit harsh but the handling on curves is a nice tradeoff. Riding style has a lot to do with what you want shocks to do.

    Craigslist "funnies"

he gets points for honesty and pricing. Lists what's wrong, doesn't claim it road ready, and isn't asking 4500 dollars for it. That's a good parts bike if nothing else.

    Fast-fouling plugs mystery. Suggestions?

I think the diaphram in your petcock has sprung a leak and is pouring gas into that cylinder. Remove vacuum line from petcock and plug it with a screw. Set petcock to PRI Test bike. If gas starts to run from the open vacuum port on the petcock shut the engine off ( safety first) and there you...

    Carb setup suggestions for GS1000G

"The big issue so far is going to be getting that broken screw out of the intake. Probably going to have to grind the remaining part of the screw flat, drill and then tap a new hole. Any other suggestions? The screw is broken off almost flush with the surface of the head." I had the same...

    Carb setup suggestions for GS1000G

I would get it running right with stock air box before any mods, that's just my opinion. I have 42.5 pilots in mine, I've seen three sets of 1000G carbs and all had 42.5 so maybe that means something. I have a V and H street pipe and it runs pretty good with 115 mains, and 42.5 pilots with an...

Another runaway carb issue: resurrected 1980 GS 1000G

i would turn the throttle speed adjustment screw all the way out until you see air between the screw and the throttle, then in 1 or 2 turns. it was probably turned up to keep it running but you fixed the carbs and intake leaks, now it can be turned back out. Adjusting the throttle cable has no...

    1981 GS1000G exaust fitment question

MAC pipes are of low quality. The baffles in the end are poorly made and far from engineered for your engine. I run a V and H street pipe, about 375.00, and it's a decent item. It's not as good as the Marshall on my 650 but Jama/Marshall discontinued their 1000 pipes so I went with V and H...

shop got my gs1150 running, get it home and then no spark

Before buying anything troubleshoot A little more . If you get a change in resistance readings on the pickup coils while cranking check for coil voltage. Don't worry about 9 or 10 volts. Then check for 0 ohms between the coil trigger and tbe ignition module connector. If open correct it. If both...

Replacing left handlebar switch with Honda type.

I also like the high beam switch being up and down with turn signals left to right, more intuitive that way. Plus they don't break and are easy to disassemble and clean. One needs an engineering plan to work on the multifunction version. Somewhere in the world are millions of lost springs in a...

    Motogpwerks New gs1000 race exhaust

Heat was one reason, airflow was another. Or to put it another way, keep hot engine heat from the carb intake since cooler air is denser. It also provided a calm area for the carbs to draw air from.

Replacing left handlebar switch with Honda type.

I rewired a 650G LH control for my GS1000G. I did not like the multifunction switch, wanted a headlight off button, and that horn button is a known problem. I also didn't like the auto cancelling turn signals. It wasn't too hard to do, I'll have to write something up. I know have the same...

    81 GS650 Petcock

The 81 tank mounted the petcock at the rear, the 82 and 83 mounted in the middle of the tank side. So if you have an 81 it makes sense to send the output forward. On some petcocks the outlet can be repositioned as needed. Get a rebuild kit for it or buy a new one. They are a critical part of...
