    Choke Kills Bike

Ok so this might be some obvious stupid mistake on my part but after cleaning the carbs (full strip down and dip as is recommended on this forum) my bike will start and run but any amount of choke will drop the RPMs. I know the bike only running on choke is a symptom of needing to clean your...

    What did I do wrong?

For some reason I couldn't get it lower but I used a scissor jack to lift the wheel up and that worked. Thanks everyone!

    What did I do wrong?

Oh, yea u right..... after I posted this I went back and looked at the how to from Basscliff and yea I think that's what I did. I should have looked at the parts fiche. Now the last time I took the wheel off I dropped the exhaust, is this required? It seems really difficult or even impossible...

    What did I do wrong?

Well the first thing was letting my back brake pads wear to nothing and dig deep grooves in my back rotor. Got a used one in better shape on fleabay. Then I learn how to take my rear wheel off via basecliffs instructions. Get it back on with newish rotor. Well the I realize I ordered a set of...

    GS850G Died suddenly on freeway

after filling up I put it back to ON and didn't have another problem. Fuel Lines can get kinked up? That's probably the issue unless I have way less reserve then I thought or this tank is smaller then the spec sheet.

    New Oil Leaks

I posted before about what I thought was a leak in the shift seal that turned out to the cam chain tensioner while I was on a 2,000 mile road trip. Well, I got home and took my bike over to my buddies warehouse. They have a little shop set up with a lift, it's pretty chill and much better then...

    GS850G Died suddenly on freeway

Got on the freeway (I10 East) to visit a friend 40 miles away. I make it maybe 10 and lose power gradually. I'm getting less and less throttle response. I start to pull over and the bike dies. I coast to a stop in the shoulder. I try to restart and it sounds like it's about to start, it turns...

Blew out clutch seal 1000 miles from home

I thought I'd write a little update. I made it home, it is leaking from the cam chain tensioner. I kept it under 65mph most of the way and that seemed to reduced the amount (or atleast reduce the amount on my legs), got to explore some neat backroads. I found the excellent how to on...

Blew out clutch seal 1000 miles from home

I woke this morning double-checked all the bolts (good suggestion) packed up and road from one friends house to another (45 miles) I stopped after 20. It seemed to be leaking less but still leaking. I examined the cam chain tensioner and appears to have air bubbles coming out from where the gap...

Blew out clutch seal 1000 miles from home

I've been to the UP and hope to go back sometime. I really like Michigan. I went out this morning to look at the bike and the bottom screw on the cam chain tensioner is so loose you can see daylight through the gap. Not sure if this was the result of the potholes in Detroit or what. But that's...

Blew out clutch seal 1000 miles from home

One of the chrome cam covers rattled off when I hit a pothole in Detroit and I couldn't find it. That's just for looks right?

Blew out clutch seal 1000 miles from home

Alittle update. I arrived at my friend's house in Detroit. I ordered the seal along with a clutch gasket (just in case) and a new oring for the oil cap. The parts came Friday. I replaced the oring on the oil cap. Oil had been pooling up around the cap and friend told me the oring seemed flat...

Blew out clutch seal 1000 miles from home

Brendan, I rocked the arm back and forth. Almost no play but I did hear slight click when I tried to rock it back and forth. Not sure if that's a sign the bearings are going bad but the clutch works great.

Blew out clutch seal 1000 miles from home

Steve, You are correct. The one I ordered is 09285-12006 but when I was writing up the forum post I wrote the internal one by accident. So it's easier to remove without taking the clutch cover off? Good to know I'd rather not do that I'd don't think the things ever been off

Blew out clutch seal 1000 miles from home

I'm half way through a long trip. I was in Louisville got on I69 to make time. Cruising along at 85mph I noticed the old girl was loosing a lot of oil. I pulled into a gas station. My foot was covered. I figured I should still get to Detroit so I topped her off and kept her under 70mph. She went...

    2,000 Mile roadtrip on my '81 GS850G

Some friends wanna go for a ride around the same time so I'm leaving with them, taking the natchez trace to nashville. I'll be heading north, they will be going to ashville via the tail of the dragon. I'm planning to avoid riding as much as possible in urban areas, park the bike at a friends...

    2,000 Mile roadtrip on my '81 GS850G

Thanks for the positive attitude. I've been going on a fair amount of 2-4 hour rides and my helmet fits like a glove now (though I do need to wash the padding soon) Bike runs great but I do have to replace my turn signal switch and mount a luggage rack (planning on doing that this week)

    2,000 Mile roadtrip on my '81 GS850G

So I've always, always wanted to go on a epic motorcycle trip. I bought my GS850g 2 years ago because everything I read about them made them seem like great budget tourers. Well finally after 2 years I feel confident (but still very cautious) as a motorcyclists and all the major issues the GS...

    Bike only starts with throttle

You know what? I just went out and to test the battery. My Multimeter just died  (think it needs new batteries) but I noticed the screw was loose on the red (+) terminal I tightened it down and the bike started with choke no problem. I feel silly I didn't check that before
