A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    T8's 750 Cafe Racer Project

Did you buy that red 78 1000E with the hideous double hump seat and duck taped sissy bar? Dana coils, newer tires and electrics problem where the battery drains? It was still listed on KSL as of last night and I half considered it but it but you're a lot closer, glad you swiped it up!

    Carb sync / valve adjustment / service manual **** 1982 gs850gl

Basscliffs pdf that I linked has good pictures and instructions, the manual is good too so do as Steve and Ed suggest (look at their post count, these guys are experts!) and don't follow the Clymer manual. The 80 and 82 850 engines are the same - there are only minor ignition differences and...

    Carb sync / valve adjustment / service manual **** 1982 gs850gl

Yes the L and G only have minor differences, mostly cosmetic but electrics and engine components are the same. Valve adjustment pdf is here. Carb sync is here. And yes master carb is 3rd from the left while sitting on the bike.

    Case Paint any recommendations?

Good to know that the Dupli-color is the better match. Curious how it holds up to the elements and temperature over time. I'm told that the VHT, when properly cured, holds up quite well and I bet the Eastwood is even better - I have no experience with the Dupli?color. Time will tell for both...

    Gs700es

I like to know the history of the bikes I buy as well. I have an 83 750ES without lowers and love it. Where are you located? For $500 I'm very interested if you sell it, but you are likely far, far away from me, as that's how my luck goes with these kind of things...

    Carb sync / valve adjustment / service manual **** 1982 gs850gl

Nice, I own a similar L and a G too. You are correct about the master carb. #3 is the master, you sync the others to it and yes all will change slightly when you change one. The manual is here on Basscliff's website, the carb sync and valve adjustment are there too along with a whole lot more...

    1981 GS1100E build

Sounds like you're all over the wiring - but yes you may have some eff this and eff thats with it anyway. Yes definitely not going to be stock jetting with the pods and pipe but other than my Kerker, all my pipes are stock and all my bikes run stock air boxes. I'll glean what I can from this...

    1981 GS1100E build

Looks great! Good luck with the wiring, it can be a pain and I know you made changes from stock, which can complicate or simplify things, depending... Did you bench sync the carbs?

    Case Paint any recommendations?

Thanks, I'm leaning towards an electric one just for the cars and bikes at the house. The Delta one sounds nice - Honda's small engines are awesome.

    valve adjustment

+1 on Steve's spreadsheet. Invaluable. I try to stay on the loose side of the range (.03 - .08) for the exhaust side as they do tighten over time. Make sure you clean and oil both sides of the shim when reinserting and rotate the engine several times before remeasuring. If if you don't have...

    Case Paint any recommendations?

Chuck, your tips are some of the most practical here, thank you for that. I recently stripped/blasted my 850 and got it back in the frame (with minimal scratching) and wasn't sure the best way to cure it gradually based on experience. Now I know! Some pics of mine using the SP-127, OP, get...

Nice work! Did you have a similar wood bracket or peice of padded steel on the other side and did you cool them in the freezer or silicon/grease them up?

No lights fixed - clean fuse box contacts

Didn't even think of that - I have one of those syringe type squeeze bottles that I use to cement acrylic together, the tip is so small that I think the flux might gel up. But I've seen larger gauge needled ones for $4 locally at a plastics supply house - yet another great tip Pos, thanks!

No lights fixed - clean fuse box contacts

Thanks Pos - I've learned a lot from you, in fact I'm pretty sure it was you that suggested the MG chemicals flux on Amazon, when I clicked your link it took me here and sure enough that's the same stuff I purchased back in May: I just wish it had a small brush connected to the lid, so I dip...

No lights fixed - clean fuse box contacts

Solder those crimps Solder those crimps Pos is the champion of all things electrical here, heed his words people. I cleaned, treated and flowed solder into my crimped fuse box on a bike I am restoring just last night: I also did the SPG while wiring in an SH-775 in directly to the stator...

Now I have a transmission noise - diagnosis help please.

Well it's not the gear oil, it was maybe a tablespoon low but the sound is definitely in the driveshaft/swing arm area. What a relief. It makes a slight dragging/scraping noise with the bike on the winter stand in neutral while spinning the rear wheel. I'm a little hesitant to take it for a spin...
