A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What electrical connectors do you use?

Depends on the application. Those look a little bulky if you're going to be rewiring your whole bike but useful for ease of use. Posilocks are a cool connector that are easy to use, require no tools and reliable. They are a little pricey but a really great thing to be able to throw in the tool...

GS450S tank on GS450L - Who has done it?

I'm guessing that the swap would take at least some modification of at least the front or the rear mounts. If the inside gap of the tank mounts is the same, it's pretty easy to cut the mounts of and re-well them in a different place. You can similarly rework the rear mount. Depends on what you...

    Vm30's on a gs450

Personally, I get stoked whenever I hear a loud vehicle coming my way. Agreed with Hannibal - obviously having the sirens (or loud pipes) will mean more people will notice you and therefore less likely to do something like swerve in front of you... Back to the original topic: I'd love to see...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Justin what tires are you running on the TUX? Been thinking I want to put some on/off road tires onto my spare GS450 tires for the winter.

My GS450 -> GS500 Cylinder and Piston Swap

I'm not entirely sure which passages you're looking for but do have a bunch of pictures that I took during the swap. Could you be a little more specific? I forget if you can use the GS450 knob style tensioner. I know from reading Pete's thread that it interferes a little with the idle set screw...

New, Aftermarket Wiring Looms for Frankenstein Project

I've made up a couple of wiring harnesses from scratch at this point and suggest that you get a used harness or two that's from the 80's gs and cobble one together from them. The wires themselves are almost always in excellent shape after you remove the sheathing/loom and will already contain a...

    GS450 Rebuild

Okay so this has been slow going between work, taking advantage of the remainder of the year on my GS750, other projects/things I'm involved with. I've got a bit of momentum on my GS450 over the past couple weeks and had the chance to do the GS500 cylinder/piston swap as well as start putting...

    Source for carb diaphragms

I've never used JBM but in all my searching are the only source for replacement BS34 diaphragms. I've heard of other people using them. If you go for it, I'd be curious to know how they work out.

Time to do my first oil change- recommendations?

I've been using the KN133 on my GS450 for a few years now. Can't go wrong there. Another Shell Rotella 10w 40 vote from me.

part of being new is being in over my head right?

I'm partial to the GS450's so am glad to see another one. If the wiring harness is really in that shoddy condition, I would consider just finding a used on on ebay. That way, you can un and then re-wrap it to your liking and make sure all the contacts are in good shape. It sounds like you've got...

Help with 79 GS750 rattle appreciated - please have a listen!

Yup, cam walk. My GS750 does the same thing. Mine goes away at anything above idle and also seems to happen more in the fall when the temperature drops a little (even after engine warms up completely).

    Pressing start button does nothing

The '83 GS450 very well may have the clutch switch. It would be the "Starter Disconnect Switch" here: https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=2370B62DDF9F0C6B&id=2370B62DDF9F0C6B%211031&parId=2370B62DDF9F0C6B%211030&o=OneUp. Could be a loose connection in the headlight bucket - The kill switch wires...

My GS450 -> GS500 Cylinder and Piston Swap

Cylinder on: I had previously seen a discussion of whether or not to use the O-rings with the gasket but never a definitive answer. Yes, use the GS500 cylinder head gasket AND and GS500 O-rings. You can see the space for them in the picture above. I've never seen a gasket like the GS500...

My GS450 -> GS500 Cylinder and Piston Swap

So it took me a while to find some time to make the swap even though it only ended up taking a few hours which is usually the case for stuff like this. Part of the reason I'm writing this up like this is to show show how simple the swap is as a reference for others. Here's some pictures along...

Changing the stance of my GS450L

The GS450 wheels should all be interchangeable so if those are from another GS450 you should be good. Up front I have the stock GS450L 19" wheel and the back is a stock GS450E/S 18" wheel. I'm not sure what bike a 17" wheel would come from - maybe a GS450T?
