A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    GS1000 Fuel Flow Problems

I'd pull the tank cap apart and check the vent hole isn't blocked. No air in = no fuel out. Running out at WOT is a known symptom of a blocked or partially blocked vent.

Mikuni RS 38 accelerator pump trouble!

The pipework between carbs can block. A careful strip and squirt carb cleaner through the passages usually works.

    cruzin image gaskets?

If it's easily accesible with the tank off, welding onto the broken bolt is a good choice.

    GS Big Valve head

Sad to hear. Condolences to his family. Only had contact with him a couple of times but we seem to have shared a sense of humor. Good guy to deal with.

    Dyna-s and the 450

Time one side up - the one for which you have marks - and because the Dyna pickups are fixed at 180 degrees apart, the other side should be correct.

    Speedmoto VM30 Kit

Firstly, VM30's are not too big for this motor. I've run bigger on race 450's. Secondly, once set up they will carburate better than the OE CV carbs. If the only problem is the starting circuit as seems to be the case, it's worth spending a little time sorting it.

    Speedmoto VM30 Kit

First get hold of the Mikuni Carburettor Super Tuning Manual. There are some good exploded views in there. It looks like the starter circuit fuel jet is in the bottom of the float bowl - and may not be easy to access. But the air side is alongside the starter plunger and may be worth a look. If...

    82 1100ez clutch rattle

The primary drive gear runs on a needle roller race which itself runs on a hardened spacer trapped between the clutch hub and the mainshaft bearing. There will be a hardened washer at each end of this spacer. The length of the spacer sets the endfloat of the primary drive gear. The sides of the...

Clutch drag. Different lever perch gs/gsx?

The possibility of an incorrect clutch lever assembly is real. I've struck it on a racebike which had aftermarket levers and the opposite problem. Too much lift which made the internal release mechanism go over center. Not a Suzuki I'd point out. Measuring pivot to cable perch will tell you.

    81 GS1100 with 29 smoothbores.

Nessism's last post is correct. Sell the 29's and go RS36. Neither the 29's or the 33 smoothbores are good street carbs. RS36's will outperform them,be easier to set up and probably more economical too. I've run smoothbores in both sizes on several bikes and RS's of various sizes too. The RS...

    Retarding Ignition Timing

Interesting you mentioned the FZR750 Yamaha. That head is one of the very worst I've ever come across for getting the charge burned. Not helped by the factory tolerances on the squish band meaning it's usually around 1.5mm clearance. The OW01 ignition has two advance peaks - 42 deg around 6500...

    Retarding Ignition Timing

35 degrees is not a lot of advance by 4V/cylinder standards. I'd suggest that the - fairly typical - slow midrange response is actually lowish intake vacuum at that point slowing the slides lifting. It can be tuned out by increasing the size of the vacuum sensing holes in the slide bottoms...

    BLACK engine paints

I use a NZ made satin black etch primer. On blasted cases it hangs on very well indeed. Kiwimacchi on here has recommended a 2 pack Durapox which has also lasted well. The brands might not help you but I'd recommend an etch prime before the finish coat anyway. Edit : It would be worth searching...

    Gs1100e or katana 1100 motor

Yes. 16valve 1000cc Katana only I think. Homologation special for TTF1 1000cc limit. And for countries where the top limit was 1000cc for production or production based racing

    17 Tooth 530 Front Sprocket

Some years back I had a customer who changed his GSX1100 to a 17T front. After I'd dialled the cams and set it up properly his wife complained she was close to being lost off the pillion under acceleration - so he put the 17 on to soften the hit. I made up an 18T 520 front for the race GS1000...

78 GS750 engine overhaul on the Cheap!

My experience with the cheap gasket sets has been OK. The thing to watch is the thickness of the odd shaped O rings at the back corners of the barrel. If they're too thin there's not enough squash to keep them oiltight. A smear of sealant around the outside of those is all I use on the base...

Sourcing GS1100G Engine Parts - Mostly Gaskets

Agreed - or a carbide burr in a die grinder. If you've got the style of sprocket which has a plastic noise damper moulded on, remove it. But do a sketch of where the timing marks are in relation to the bolt holes. A good scriber will reinstate the marks.

    Frame up builders

I've scratch built quite a few frames - and braced a lot of stock ones for racing. Finding someone to modify a frame for street use is becoming a can of worms in a lot of places around the world. Here any deviation from stock requires an engineers certification before it can be registered for...

    Flywheel Magnetic Rotor Damaged

I doubt if a chipped magnet would cause what you describe. Over the years I've opened up a lot of bikes and probably 50% of the time you'll find a chipped magnet. If a segment as big as possibly 30% of the circumference is missing you'd notice the out of balance but I'd doubt if it would make a...

    Wheel assembly question

Not so much a damper, more a flexible spacer. I read it as limiting movement of the drive on the spline. Usually they disappear once broken - and if you don't read the parts diagram you don't know it was ever there.
