A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Oil cooler bits leaking

The brass fittings look like gas pipe ones which are probably threaded BSP. British standard pipe thread. The threads onto the cooler are probably metric. Where's it leaking from ? If it's the cooler fittings, given where you are, I'd get them professionally replaced with AN ones which will...

What is this part? Cushion 21215-49001

Noise damper. Production tolerances mean that the occasional gear pair might whine. Aftermarket you wouldn't care. Bike is probably noisier than stock anyway.

    7/10 conversion questions

I suspect the 2V 750 is longer in the cases. It's the only one with a kickstart Never personally measured it.

GSXR "DOT" head on my GS1100

For what it's worth, those heads like the cams on 104/104 lobe centers. If you weld in that piece of alloy, bolt the head down to a flat surface while it's done. Last thing you need at this point is distortion. . I'd also probably have looked for alternative carb rubbers - angled. I've...

    Engine Oil Strainer

Have a look in Bunnings for flyscreen mesh. If it's too coarse, use two layers. It's only supposed to stop chunks big enough to damage the oil pump.

    Copper headgasket O-rings.??

Looking at the pic, the copper rings on the outer corner studs are one - time use crushable rings. If you ever re-use that gasket yes, I'd put rubber o-rings in those holes.

    Irish Road Racing Under Threat

Printed on tickets and prominent in the programme at all motorsports events here. You are there at your own risk. No cost accident medical care and wage cover has largely made that irrelevant here anyway - but it's usually still printed.

    Irish Road Racing Under Threat

I'm wondering if Brexit has had any influence on the insurance companies.Yes, public liability insurance is effectively for collateral damage. Bike goes into house, house burns down, that's covered. Damage to surroundings and spectators. Watching it with interest as we still have 3 street...

    Barry Sheene's 1979, Yoshimura Dunstall Suzuki GS1000

I think from memory Sheene only rode it once. I've seen it advertised for sale several times over the years and the full history is pretty well known. Dunstall got into offering cosmetic kits for the 550, 750 and 1000. Pipes too. The race bike was I think a way of getting publicity for the road...

    Split the cases or no??

A bench grinder will cut through the rubber easily. I've tapered the rubber back to the underlying steel case.

    Split the cases or no??

You can put a taper on the inner edge of the seal to help it enter. I've done it freehand on a bench grinder in the past. Then lube, plenty of lube. What you use is personal preference but I've found rubbergrease good. It's the grease used when reassembling brake calipers. Something of a large...

    Help identify correct engine timing

If you think the timing is out, you can always check that cylinders 1 & 4 are at top dead center when the T mark lines up. The ignition unit carrying the marks is located by a pin in a slot. I've seen them quite badly worn so they can be slightly out.

Lots of smoke from my rebuilt 1135 engine

Yes, if the head still has the valves in it, that would be a tidy way to check. Edit - Do it on the inlet port for that cylinder too.

Lots of smoke from my rebuilt 1135 engine

If the valves seal - as has been proved by the reconditioners vacuum test - then I'd look for a crack from the cam cavity to the exhaust port on that cylinder. If you've got the head off, clean out that exhaust port, tilt the head so the exhaust side is lower - and leave some oil or better...

    Oil pressure

I had a set of Honda CBR600 cases aquablasted. They sat on the shelf for a month waiting for parts. Slowly but surely a small pile of white dust accumulated in and under them. And yes, they had been pressure washed several times. That stuff is very very hard to get completely out.

Lots of smoke from my rebuilt 1135 engine

Is the second ring on that piston fitted upside down ? This can be a source of high oil consumption.

    Oil pressure

Sadly, those shells are pretty typical of a GSX400/4 of thsi age. Earlier on this thread there is mention of the 2nd gen 750/4 and it's plain bearing troubles. The 400/4 I think hit the Jap home market fractionally earlier than the 750. Same design team, same problems. If the crank is marked...

    Oil pressure

Once upon a time Suzuki offered undersize shells for the first gen plain bearing 750. The only model they ever did this for. If it is out of round it might be worth scouring the internet for NOS undersize bearings. From memory rod shells came only in .010 and .015in undersizes. Mains went down...

    Oil pressure

If it's done no 2 rod bearing, check the shaft for round - must be less than .0005in out of round - and it's worth getting it crack tested too.
