DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Wurring sound? from trans or final drive?

The points of highest torque loading. Bearing going bad is my pick now.

    New member with GSX750-ES

Welcome to the site. Good luck with everything. But Please....Do not shorten that pipe. It's the correct length for a 4 : 1 on that motor. By all means clean it up and paint it - and make a nicer hanger. But shortening it may well lead to carburation woes. Looking at it, it could be a Transac or...

Wurring sound? from trans or final drive?

I'd guess a collapsed bearing or spacer in the right angle gearset.

Wurring sound? from trans or final drive?

You can see the reduced end on the upper #1 - the driven shaft. That is what breaks off.

Wurring sound? from trans or final drive?

Pull the rubber boot off the front joint of the drive shaft - and see if you can move the universal joint forward and back. It's also possible you'll find the retaining nut sitting in there. They break the reduced diameter piece off the end of the secondary shaft - which is threaded for the...

what did you wrench on today??

Agree. Race pits these days are very noisy places with the generators running for tyre warmers etc. The bikes have to meet noise standards, I'd like to see the generators regulated too.

    1978 gs550e bigger car question

I've put Z1 carbs on a Z650 - and the 650 carbs on a big CB400....Which required respacing. It's possible to remount them on a 5mm - or 3/16in for you yanks - plate and redo the fuel joiners and throttle link rod. But it's a lot of work and if you haven't done anything like that before, I...

    Flywheel magnet disappeared!

Why wouldn't they ? 750 was a recognised and popular class around the world. The 700 sold in the US was a world market 750 with a small engine. Outside the US, we knew you were getting the small version - and why. And laughed about it. And continued racing a 750 class.

750 into 1100 engine swap is it feasible?

Around my age so probably met him if he's been around the bike scene here as long as me.

750 into 1100 engine swap is it feasible?

If you mean an aircooled 750 Katana engine, the 7/11 swap is an easy one so going the other way - 11/7 should be too. If it's an oil cooled 750 katana - the later one with full bodywork and a GSXR engine, not a common swap. Might be OK.

    Flywheel magnet disappeared!

That one is for an 8 valve engine. Is yours an 8 or 16V engine ? 83 is usually the 16V. From memory, the shaft diameter is different.

1980 GS450 Front End Swap Compatibility

From personal experience I can say that you won't go much bigger as the bearing sizes in the headstock are quite small. I put 35mm Marzocchis in mine which was an improvement. Ex a ducati pantah. From memory, I found taper rollers to adapt them quite easily. I'd be looking at something like...

    Weirdest problem I ever experienced.

Try for a spark with the plug caps off the wires. Bad caps are more common than you'd think.

    Flywheel magnet disappeared!

While I haven't personally seen it on the bigger Suzukis, the 250 and 400 fours are prone to losing these magnets. If they can be found in the engine and are in one piece, they can be epoxied back in place....At your own risk. There's got to be some of those 750 rotors around surely. Enough of...

Has it got a sidestand switch ?

    Weirdest problem I ever experienced.

Have you reconnected everything ? Often there's more than one wire to a battery terminal - and it's easy for one to drop out of sight and get missed.

83 GS1100E RH crankshaft oil seal replacement?

Nothing stopping you from grinding a small lead-in taper on the rubber edge of the seal. I've used a bench grinder for this previously, a sanding/linishing belt would do it too. Only a small taper on the leading edge is needed. Grimly's method of protecting the inner lips is a good one too.

Broken Clutch Cable Anchor on the Cranckase

Yes, I did ours with empty cases but covering the clutch with cloth to catch the swarf from drilling works too. I used three 6mm screws with nyloc nuts - and the heads are lockwired on the top. It was a piece of 3mm stainless plate with a machined and tapped block welded to the top. The TIG...

Broken Clutch Cable Anchor on the Cranckase

A good TIG welder can build the housing back up around a steel bolt put in where the cable goes. 8 X 1.25mm thread. If he's really good you won't even have to put a tap through it afterwards. Just recut the cable slot. The cases on our racebike GS1000 engine had a previous life as a turbo...

what did you wrench on today??

This is a GS1000E chain drive. Quite different from your G in that area. And yes, an oil leak from the secondary drive can be an involved job to fix.
