anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

I took the 81 GS1100 to my favorite industrial road for some air fuel gauge readings. It has a quarter mile of 8' fence on one side, two small food product factories and a storage unit in front of a railroad on the other side. I wanted some wide open readings so I was rolling in second and went...

Low Compression in 3 Cylinders 100 Miles After Rebuild

We really aren't supposed to re-use rings, I never knew why except I was told they don't always re-seat even if nearly new.

Bikes You've Always Wanted But Never Owned

Well, I didn't add a Vincent because I sort of gave up that dream but it's an obvious lister. A Rapide sold at auction a few years ago that gave me hope, I thought I could have sold a few and bought that one.

Something hinky with GS1100E starter or starter clutch?

Check the oil for gas, the petcock can leak into cyl #2 and hydro lock it. If that was the case, you would probably know by now though.

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

I recently updated my AFR meter experience in my GS1100 with 29 smoothbores post. Tonight, I realized this thread would have been a better place to update. The probe that I made apparently doesn't flow enough exhaust to heat the sensor properly, at times the readings seemed correct but often...

    81 GS1100 with 29 smoothbores.

I see I needed to make an update. All of the data from my exhaust probe was corrupted, so what I believed then, was bad information. I also got a set of RS36's and the exhaust probe said they were also rich, the plugs didn't agree but I dropped a needle slot and a jet size. Recently I made...

I have not, but wondered about getting onto them, hopefully the caster wheels lock.

    Gadsen /Suzuki wins NHRA!

Gadsen is #1 in points, leading by 72 points. There is a privateer on a V&H rental bike giving him and Gaige run for his money.

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

When I was testing with the probe everything was reading rich, one day I rode with the wind behind to my left and returned with the wind to the front to my right and it was way different. I'm not sure if it was wind in the pod filters or the headwind requiring more throttle opening. It will be...

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

I rode it tonight in cold air, it was really lean high 14, to 15's-1 at small throttle openings, I think it means the needles need to be moved back up to where they were when I got them. When I got into throttle openings where it was just running on the main jets the air fuel went to the high 12's.

    Oil contamination

It sounds like you're covered with just the oil change, Hopefully, it will continue to look good. If it's been sitting a while, consider changing the timing belts, I used the parts store gates belts and hoses, you can get genuine Honda but they're more expensive and probably gates anyway. I also...

    New Vietnamese seat with pictures

I've read that much of the seat foam is hard styrofoam. A guy on the SHOC4 Honda site bought one and then put a red Yamiya foam in it. He was pretty surprised to find hard foam when he took it apart. My 70 CB750 Vietnam seat is also hard. It looks awesome though.

    seat step?

I feel like this cover has had some interior slick-em applied. I've cleaned it and tried Avon skin so soft which has softened and cleaned my other vinyl seats including a 69 that's still going strong. I'm thinking I'll put on the new seat cover as is and see how it feels. The old one has...

    seat step?

It does have a small step, I still felt like I might go off the back when accelerating excessively. It was suggested that I need a fuzzy seat and velcro pants.

    seat step?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I have a new seat cover for my 81 GS1100e I'm thinking I'd like a little step to keep me in place under acceleration. I've re-covered a few seats and would like to trim the foam a little but I also want it wrinkle free, can a small step be done without sewing?

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

Thanks, it's a nice 6 footer, I used a lot of elbow grease on it getting the aluminum and footpeg brackets presentable. The guys here helped a bit with parts for it. I'm building a CB750 engine with a billet cylinder that will cost about what this bike did.

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

After doubting the numbers of the exhaust probe, I made a section of pipe with an O2 bung and sensor to fit between the Kerker header and muffler on my GS1100. I think I'm now getting reliable information from the Autometer gauge. The jetting in the 36's as delivered was spot on.
