DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Rearsets for an '80 GS850G...other similar models that would work?

Tagging along, as I am curious about this as well.

    Intake Boot Screw Size

I don't have a 450, nor have I had a Suzuki twin (yet :D) so that part is unfamiliar to me. Perhaps someone will be along to confirm, but it looks similar to a choke plunger seal to me, I would remove the bolt below that rubber seal and soak the whole thing in hot water to soften the rubber, I...

    Intake Boot Screw Size

Ha! Sounds like you'll fit right in around here. 12:30 and you're still on the site, and working on/looking at your bike. And yes, I agree that's the way things go... :D

    Stuck needle jet/throttle

Good tips here. Chances are it's just varnish gumming up the butterfly. As mentioned, don't dip any rubber or plastic parts that you don't intend to replace. I bet you'll be fine after a good soaking. Using heat as John suggest will help a lot too. They can take a fair amout of heat, just make...

    Intake Boot Screw Size

Thanks John, the welded nut method is a good one too, forgot about that one - and particularly for exhaust header bolts. A cheap Harbor Freight welder is a good investment IMO. Where are you located? There may be a member near you willing to help... I personally have not had much with...

    Intake Boot Screw Size

I'd heat them up really good with mapp gas or propane and use some good pentrating liquid before I cut anything. Being on the head, they'll take a lot of heat. I feel like a broken record today as I've already posted this - but my favorite concoction for penetrating fluid is a home made 50/50...

    '78 GS750 Project

Agreed - a little tip if you don't already know it too is to make your own soaking solution with a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF. Don't use the fingernail polish grade acetone, get good hardware store in a can or lab grade acetone from a chemical supply. I mix it up and put it in an old spray...

Pulled the carbs off the 81 850G today.

100% agree, I'll buy aftermarket parts for a lot of things but this is one area I wouldn't. Keep us posts on your progress - and post more pics if you can. We love pics!

    Zagg's Project: '78 GS750E

Also, applying plenty of heat to that bottom screw, soak, heat, tap tap with a screwdriver and hammer, soak heat and hit it with vice grips should get it. I'd personally put some opposing screws back in to offset the tension as well. Might just be in my head but if you remove all but the last...

Cool. Make sure you only go OEM Mikuni on replacements. I bought the $80 Harbor Freight Ultrasonic cleaner a few years ago and I'll dip in the can/basket for ~24 hours condition depending, rinse, then hit them for 15-20 minutes in the heated ultrasonic cleaner filled with Simple Green HD (I've...

Pulled the carbs off the 81 850G today.

Propane torch or the heat gun will help here, don't be afraid to get it really hot around that post they are seated in. Make sure you have the correct sized screwdriver, or modify one to fit since it sounds like you have 2 of them out already. The brass is really brittle and there is not much...

Does my 81 GS750l like high revs/ when to shift?

Likely because he is the original owner and more importantly, does the maintenance.

    DB Electrical

Agreed. And a neighbor that has an oven big enough to for a frame in? Now that's a neighbor I'd like to have near me! Hard to take your daily rider down without a stablemate to ride for sure. I have too many projects going and the snow finally hit hard and deep enough here so I'm working in my...

I don't get it either, I have both the 55402 and the SH-775 and the SS-775 was 1/5th the price (albeit used vs. new) and is smaller so it fit in the stock location under the battery box with very minor modifications, no need for a special weather pack connector and I was able to use...

I bet you're right, we'll likely start seeing them soon enough, but the real thing is cheap enough for me to not take chances - got my last one on eBay off a wrecked Ranger for $37 shipped! Had a chip out of one of the fins, but it works great - 14.5V across the board.

    Cop getting happy...

Pretty cool. I hate that feeling when the lights come on behind you, but it is nice when they zoom past you... The Highway Patrol and SLC proper police here have switched from Harleys to the new BMW's too. They look really nice, hard to imagine one a cop getting his front wheel off the ground...

Does my 81 GS750l like high revs/ when to shift?

Your carbs could be way out of sync too, running on 2 cylinders or the timing might be off as well. Is the bike new to you? You likely have some work ahead of you as most of these bikes haven't had the maintenance they should have had for ~35 year old machines and while they can take a lot of...

Welcome MonkeyWrench, you're off to good start here. This site and it's members are a wealth of knowledge...read up, download the manual from BassCliff's site and ask the questions the search function doesn't solve for you. I'm sure you can get a rear caliper from a member here in the parts...
