GS1100E very slow cranking after warmed up

My 83 GS1100E starts up great and drives great. When cold, it cranks pretty normal/quickly and fires right up. After the bike is warmed up and ridden, if I turn it off then try and restart, it cranks ultra slow, and its just barely enough to fire up the bike again. Does this sound like battery...

    Fuel Petcock interchangability for a 1983 GS1100E?

My original petcock is broken. I dont want to buy a used oem, would rather buy new. Im trying to find a quality oem or aftermarket petcock that is compatible with my 83 gs1100ed. I searched the forum but could not find the information. I did find a link in a post to a petcock that works but the...

    1983 GS1100E Clutch parts questions

So, while I'm in the case, I'm planning on replacing the oil seal on the pinion shaft. Is it a good idea to replace the pinion bearings while I'm in there? (#27/28 in diagram)

    1983 GS1100E Clutch parts questions

So I compared the suzuki parts diagrams from the 81, 82, and 83 gs1100e, and the 84/85 gs1150e. The 81, and 84/85 only list one part number, 21441-31D00. This is the thicker fiber The 82/83 offer both the thicker fiber (21441-31D00) for the Z model, and the thinner fiber (21441-49210) for the...

    1983 GS1100E Clutch parts questions

So if I wanted to order oem, but avoid the thinner 83 stuff, would I be good ordering steels and fibers for an 82 bike?

    1983 GS1100E Clutch parts questions

Thanks for replies. I'm a little confused, is it the Z that got the 10 fibers/steels, or is it the D? Or did both get 10? I'm assuming since there are different part numbers for the D and Z , that only one of them got the thinner disc's. Grand Rouge, I've not heard of those brands/companies...

    1983 GS1100E Clutch parts questions

Im going to replace the friction discs and steels on my 83. I was planning on ordering OEM pieces, unless there is a better option? With OEM, there are 2 part numbers for friction discs, 1 for the D model, 1 for the Z model. I have the D model, but is there any benefit to using the Z model...

    Green wire with black tracer?

The wire doesn't appear to be light green, and my horn works fine. My next step is to check for voltage in the wire while working my turn signal switch. If that doesn't show anything I'll take my switch apart and see if the wire starts there

    Green wire with black tracer?

Continuing my general inspection/maintenance/repairs of my 83 gs1100e I've noticed a green wire with a black tracer that comes out of the wiring harness around the ignition coils. It's coming from the front of the bike, in the main harness that goes up into the headlight bucket. Someone has...

Need help identifying ignition parts on 1983 gs1100e

Well, after cleaning my grounds really well, and every connection to the battery, and where the main ground attaches to the cases, and thoroughly recharging my battery off the bike with an optimate 4 charger, it fired right up. I'm going to ride the bike for a couple weeks while I'm waiting...

    Shifter pedal rod linkage adjustment

I've determined the play in the linkage portion is at the ball stud mount on the collar that attaches to the shift shaft. I've ordered that, and an oil seal for the shaft, and will attempt to do that weld or mod to case to reduce slop on that shaft

    Shifter pedal rod linkage adjustment

Yes there's play in the pedal, and in the shaft coming out of the case. Together, it just feels a little sloppy, like something was out of adjustment or worn. I was hoping there was some sort of bushing or bearing I could replace on the shaft to eliminate the play in the shaft, but it sounds...

    Shifter pedal rod linkage adjustment

On my 83 gs1100e, how much play should be in this linkage that connects the pedal to the gear coming into of the transmission? I can wiggle the pedal pretty good without moving the gear, feels like there's too much slop currently. Also, with the linkage disconnected from the gear, should the...

Need help identifying ignition parts on 1983 gs1100e

Interesting, thanks for the tip. Is there a better brand? The suzuki parts websites and motorcycle parts websites ive seen dont have any other option. Do they make the petcock assemblies new? Is there a diiferent petcock assembly from a another bike that works?

    Valve cover gasket

Permatex right stuff, Black. Yes it's an rtv. No setup time, cures in about 10 to 15min. It's the best rtv I've ever used, I'm surprised you haven't heard of it. It can be used basically anywhere except exhaust. I've never had a leak with it. It's flexible and adheres to surfaces very well. I've...

Need help identifying ignition parts on 1983 gs1100e

Yes you're right, and I did apply vaccum to the petcock diaphram on the 'on' setting and it did flow fuel today, so next I was going to put my inline spark plug test light between the plug and plug wire and see what happens. But overall, Im using the opportunity to generally go through the...

    Valve cover gasket

On older stuff, at least with older automotive applications, like valve covers and transmission pan gaskets, Ive found that most times I have to avoid rubber gaskets, as they will almost certainly leak. I use paper or fiber gaskets, with just a smear of permatex right stuff, if I want the gasket...

Need help identifying ignition parts on 1983 gs1100e

Ok great, thanks for the info guys. I was riding the bike through last fall with no issues. Then after sitting for about a week or 2, I went to start it and it cranked good as usual but wouldn't even try and fire. Cranked and cranked until battery died. I put it back in garage to deal with...

On higher mileage bikes has anyone had issues with oem rubber sealing correctly, due to slight warpage of sealing surfaces?
