A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    No acceleration above 4000

Pulling the plug isn't going to help. You need to do a proper plug chop. What that means is you run the engine at the desired RPM and load. Once there for a few seconds do a sudden kill. Kill your ignition (red switch on right side) and pull in the clutch. Come to a stop and THAN pull the...

    Carb synch

Depends on what exhaust you have. Stock, then yes. Aftermarket 4 into 1, then all should be adjusted equal.
  3. JTGS850GL

    No acceleration above 4000

You missed doing some plug chops to see how lean/rich you are on the mains.

    Broken pilot jets

Then the Torx driver method may still work. The jets will be shot but they're already are. You may be able to salvage the carb bodies though.

    Cleaning carbs and found this

That's the number 1 carb. My guess would be a leaking float valve and petcock while the bike was on the center stand for an extended period of time. Looks like there was also some water in the tank at the time.

    Broken pilot jets

Try using a straight edge screwdriver blade that fit's INSIDE the threaded area without hitting the sides. After you've soaked it with PB Blaster and heated it up with a torch, try to find the original slot in the jet and give the screwdriver a good rap with a hammer to set it deeper into the...

rubber intake boots, which way up

Letters face up and L/R are in relation to a sitting rider. Two L and two R per set. It's obvious once you get them on. The left and right boots lean inward.

    Speedometer busted?

Might want to consider buying used as a replacement. Parts like that can be found cheap on ebay.

    Intake boots : o-ring or x-ring ?

I think I just said that.;)

    Alternative to the SH775 RR

It's the only Polaris part number for the SH775 R/R.

    Intake boots : o-ring or x-ring ?

Agreed. A static condition like the carb boots and carb internals probably wouldn't benefit at all from the specific attributes of an X-ring. They're designed for dynamic movement conditions.

    Speedometer busted?

If the cable doesn't spin at the speed-O side then the cable is either broke or not engaged at the wheel end. Hard to imagine the wheel end problem unless you flattened the prongs that engage the wheel. It's possible that the cable wasn't inside the drivers and got bound up. If that's the...

    Intake boots : o-ring or x-ring ?

I know it may seem strange, but aerospace is not a very experimentation driven design area. Aerospace is almost always behind the times when implementing technology into their designs. By the time the government issues design contracts, designs are approved and production begins, newer...

1980 gs 850 vacuum line print

There's actually only one "vacuum" line. It goes between the #2 carburetor and the petcock. The other lines are vent lines and go from the carburetor vent tees and just drape over and behind the air box. There is also a single vent line that goes from the top of the engine to the top of the...

Where does the long bolt go?

I'll start at a known position and remove the bolts in clockwise fashion. As I remove the bolts I stick them through a piece of cardboard. If removing more then one cover I mark the row of bolts with what cover they were off of and start another row for the next cover. All of this assumes...

Where does the long bolt go?

Just for future clarification. The 45mm long bolt goes into the center-left front hole.

    Side stand switch

Just rechecked mine and I think I'm loosing my mind. Yes, the speed-o does have a kick stand warning light. Mine does not light either but that's because the bulb is missing as well. The low oil pressure indicator does serve dual purpose though. It will light with the engine running and the...

    Side stand switch

That funny, mine does not but the oil light does light up with the side stand down. Very strange.

    Side stand switch

That same bulb is missing on mine and I'm pretty sure that it was never there since I have no socket there either. The oil light does come on though with the engine running and the side stand down. I suppose it's possible that the gauge cluster was changed at one time but who knows. Does your...

    Side stand switch

Steve. There is no separate side stand light on an 82 GS850GL. The light that comes on is the oil pressure light. It serves dual purpose as both a low oil pressure and kickstand down switch. The light will always be on when the engine is not running. It will only go out if the side stand is up...
