A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Pilot screw washer stuck?

Doesn't look like the washer is in there to me. If the ledge is aluminum then it's not in there. The washer would be raised slightly since the O-ring is below it. I usually use a bent SS dental pick to pull the washer and O-ring out.

GSX750es - unable to create vacuum in carbs. Won't start

If you have no flow in prime then the petcock is bad. Assuming you do have gas in the tank.;)

    Clutch Wont Disengage. Help

The inner and outer hub spinning has nothing to do with what gear you're in. Did you lubricate all the clutch plates first before you assembled the clutch? It's a wet clutch and the plates must be lubricated for the clutch to disengage properly. Try riding the bike in gear, pull in the clutch...

    rotor magneto

When you say "rotor magnet" are you talking about the magnet alone or the complete rotor assembly? The 83 GS750 is actually a GSX750 and the engines are completely different between 82 and 83. I don't think the rotors are compatible.

    82 gs1100e vs gs1100g rotor

    No. They are not interchangeable.
  6. JTGS850GL

    No acceleration above 4000

Agreed. You need to be in the power band you're testing and be there for several seconds. Get out on an open road and do the tests as needed.

Possible blown head gasket? 80 1000g

On a side note... NEVER use the starter or roll the bike around in gear if you suspect hydro-lock. Pull the plugs out and then crank the engine to remove the hydro-lock condition or you WILL end up with a bent rod.

    Installing Engine into Frame

Ahhh classic Eric Bang. You can argue about his style but he did know how to do the darnedist things the "easy way".

    dip duration

All four in the dip? What did you dip them in? Were they all taken completely apart before dipping?

another first for me... orange gas, and green gas.

If you drop the float bowls it will tell you the complete story. My guess is that the green carb will look very different.
  11. JTGS850GL

    dip duration

As others have stated, 24 hours is about the max but a few hours may not be enough. Depends HEAVILY on the type of dip you're using. If it's available, I strongly encourage you to use the professional formula of Berryman's chem dip. Not the crap you buy at most auto parts stores. The...

    Carb interchange

The BS32SS carb was used on all the GS's from the 550 to the 850 but there were some differences in rails, jets and choke assemblies.
  13. JTGS850GL

    Broken pilot jets

Nobody said to use an EZ-out. Big mistake if you broke it off inside. That carb body is now toast.
  14. JTGS850GL

    Carb synch

Don't bother getting a colortune. They don't work on a CV carb.

Do I need to replace my base gasket?

Are #1-3 all the same 60psi? Might want to pickup up a second compression test as well. I've seen more than one compression tester give bad readings over the years. Make absolutely sure that the O-ring seal is good at the spark plug end, assuming that it has one.

    82 GS850G Engine Smoke

Wash the engine and see if it still smokes after a short run. Could just be that oil has migrated from the top to an area around the engine from wind.
  17. JTGS850GL

Do I need to replace my base gasket?

Compression is going to be either piston rings or valves. Drop a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder as you do a compression test and see if the number go up. If they do then it's rings. If not, then it's valves. If it's a valve problem them I would tear down the top end and do a valve job...

    1981 GS850G camshaft questions.

The 82+ GS850 used the same driveshaft as the 1100G. 81 will need a new driveshaft to match an 1100G engine flange.

Cylinder base Gasket - oil before installation?

Install it dry with all surfaces clean and flat.
  20. JTGS850GL

Do I need to replace my base gasket?

A leaking base gasket will not cause low compression. If you have to pull the head to resolve the low compression problem then you WILL need to replace the base gasket.
