A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Mikuni 36mm flat slides.

I'm working on my street bike 81 gs1100e with new RS36's, K&N's and a Kerker pipe. I have an air fuel meter made up that I can move from bike to bike. Right now it's jetted as it came but wide open it's really rich, like 9.8 to 1. I need to remove the carbs so when I open them up I'll have a...

    Dim taillight Q?

Thanks, I've yet to master the art of shrinking a pic that will copy on this site. I've tried the bike of the month submission multiple times.

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

I agree on the WOT A/F ratio, I was going to re-jet it and dropped out a bowl plug today but the jet came with the emulsion tube and it wouldn't come out of the bowl hole. I tried to unscrew the jet while holding the tube with an 8mm wrench but it appeared that I was just messing up the jet so I...

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

I have the pilot screws set to 3/8ths, the lower rpm's are leaner, I'm still surprised how much time it spends at barely open throttle, the 34mm carbs may have opened a little more. At half throttle it's in the 12-1 range but at wide open throttle the air/fuel goes all the way to 9.8's I may...

    Dim taillight Q?

I was studying the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual, I looked at the red/white and white/green that go to the headlight switch, they formerly connected the V/Reg and the Alt. through the headlight switch. While checking with the engine on and lights on high, blinking etc. I felt hot wires in...

    Dim taillight Q?

I've lived with the GS1100 for a while now and gotten the new carbs and jetting process underway. I got a new old stock ignition switch from Japan and see no difference in voltages at the fuse panel or improvement in the brightness of the lights. The charging system is working properly, battery...

    Dim taillight Q?

I've been ignoring the dim lights, haven't noticed anything getting worse. I tested that new old stock switch with no voltage improvement. I did clean a few connections and add a pair of ground wires, one to the taillight area and one to the frame near the engine ground. I still have the Polaris...

    Flat Track

I saw that on Facebook, a friend was riding in the 40+ class with a go pro, it wasn't evident in the on-bike video but I saw the jump and odd shape in another race video.

    Terry Vance drag race video

I've been to the drag strip probably hundreds of times but I've never done a quarter mile pass on a bike, a friend has a Z1 and a GS, either will run 8's. I'd dearly love to run a 12, and live to tell the story.

I was just sure I was getting a hundred HP bike. But my other bikes are a 78 GL1000 and an RC engineering 836 kitted cb750 so it's fast by comparison.

Electrical gremlins are starting to happen… I am so confused.

If you have glass fuses they can burn inside the metal cap and appear to be good visually, check for voltage on both sides of them. This can be caused by a bad connection at the fuse cap or the contact connection in the fuse box. Also we got a bad new battery recently, have the parts store...

Is there a pilot screw tool?

RS36 Mikuni's, I find it difficult to keep track of the amount of turns when adjusting the pilot screws, they face down and are behind the float bowls. I'm thinking of making a tool with a sleeve to keep it on the screw and a T on the bottom so I can keep track of how much I have turned them.

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

I rode it today, the air/fuel was rich with low 10-1 range on the lower rpms and at mid to higher throttle openings it settled in the high 12's to low 13-1's. I had not touched the carbs out of the box. I read up on the pilot screws and it said 1/8 turn to 1/2 turn, they were a full turn and...

    81 gs1100E horn replacement?

Thanks, right now they're slightly louder than the turn signal beeper on my Goldwing.

    81 gs1100E horn replacement?

The horns on the 81 are anemic at best, is there a way to tune them up? They appear to be connected with two wires on each horn. 12V+ on one wire and the other wire goes to the switch that grounds them. I have a set of nice loud Fiam horns but they appear to be chassis grounded. I'm thinking...

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

I drained the tank two times through the petcock now and it worked fine both times with the gas cap on too. I got the push/pull throttle and new grips on, but didn't get a test ride tonight.

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

I wouldn't think so, it was only lifted slightly. If it's an electrical issue or something still in play, I will find out soon enough.
