A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Just finished my 82' GS1100E resto-mod.

I think you'll find photobucket doesn't allow photo sharing anymore. Unless you pay a bunch of money. In other words, no one can see your photos.

I don't know. That muffler IS really big. Might not be so bad if it was shorter.

If you're going to use Katana instruments, there is no provision for hooking up the temp sensor. If you just want to plug the hole, remember, it 1/8-28 BSPT. Not 1/8-27 NPT.

The little black stripes for the side covers, wrap them around the back side of the cover. Less chance of that end of the decal trying to peel up. Mine are trying to peel from the visible end after 15 years, so that's a pretty good lifespan.

Are you going to shoot another layer of clear over the tank decals? The tank I messed up was that way, and I think it looks really good. Wham I get my new tank repainted, I'm planning on having it done that way again.

Looks great. I had to get a new tank, also. (Maybe the last one in the US) As I screwed mine up using acid to etch the interior. And, as you had noted, the silver is off, even from the original paint. But I'm going to have to pay someone else to re-paint it. Way outside my skill set.

Been liking this thread. Shame photo bucket stopped hosting photos, as quite a bit are now missing. Noticed your centerstand stop several pages back, and thought I'd offer a suggestion. Bracket mounts on the left pivot of the centerstand. Makes it tidy.

    '83 Katana 1100 Steering Lock

Quick question for anyone who still has the original steering lock on their Katana. The round cover plate is held on by a rivet. There is a wave washer on the rivet. I need to know if it goes under the rivet head, on top of the cover plate. Or if it goes between the cover plate and the frame...

Not too surprising. Considering the Japanese market was getting new Kats until the year 2000, or thereabouts. There are shops in Japan dedicated to only Katanas.

    MJN......Yoshimura reinvents the carburettor!

There was a company back in the late 80s, early 90s that was trying to market a similar type hollow needle. I can't remember who it was, and I've gotten rid of all my old motorcycle magazines. But I distinctly remember seeing advertisements for 'em.

GS 1150 rear wheel on my 1100 Katana

Why not go with a 4" GSX-R wheel?

Wolo Bad Boy Horn: Holy CRAP this thing is loud!

You can separate the horn from the compressor and run a hose between the two. Gives more mounting options in tight spaces. I have the compressor mounted under the seat, and the horn inside the fairing with the bell sticking out just below the fairing on my 1150.

    crash bars for an 1150

I have the square tubed style on my 1150. Got them of of eBay for $45. New in the package. GSM is the manufacturer, they made bars for lots of different bikes.

    Oil cooler?

Exactly. My parts will NOT work for an 8 valve GS.

    Oil cooler?

My 1150 is 1229, with GSX-R cams. Oiler, pump gears, and stock cooler. No issues with overheating. And summers get into the 90s, even regularly into the 100s in Corona where i work. So your stock cooler should be fine.

    Oil fill adapter for breather

I made one for my 1150. Stopped the annoying weep from the shifter shaft.

Where do you get your clip ons ?

Watch eBay for bars from other bikes as well. Such as clip ons from an NSR 400 Honda, for example. I managed to get two pair. One from somewhere in Europe. The second from the Philippines.

    Center Stand hitting chain?

The bracket came with the Kerker 4 into 1. But it would be easy to make.
