If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Keyhole cover not closing - heavy rain problem

What kind of "short" was it? Most older ignition key seals have cracks/splits or have rotted away and wet weather doesn't seem to be a problem on start up. Starting the next day would seem to rule out a dud battery, although after three years most lead acid batteries are on borrowed time...

    GS1150 Starter Clutch Advice

Hi Roy, No drama mate, and please don't feel sorry, without your help I wouldn't have a solution to the starter clutch problem so I appreciate your advice about Brian and his conversion work, all good. I have built the Kat with a plan to ride it for 20 years so to fix the problem it works out...

    GS1150 Starter Clutch Advice

The starter clutch was shipped International Express and arrived in the UK in three days so it seemed all was going well. After the starter clutch sitting for a week in Customs, I was notified VAT, Duty Tax and a handling fee had to be paid before Customs would release the parts so sending it...

    GS1150 Starter Clutch Advice

Mailed the EFFY starter clutch today. Was advised the Express Postage should see it arrive in the U.K. in about five days however, the delivery time from when it is processed by Customs to Brian receiving it is the great unknown.

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Hi Pete, After our ride last Saturday there were new interesting sounds coming from the starter clutch so when I got home I removed the starter clutch and found the damage. There is more damage inside one of the roller housings that don't show up well in a photo. Bottom line is the roller...

    GS1150 Starter Clutch Advice

Found a plastic tool box in the shed, removed the trays and shaped some hi-density foam for it to house the rotor, shim and ring-gear for the trip to the U.K. Will wrap the box in cardboard and packing tape, most likely the whole roll of tape just to be sure it arrives safe and secure. Starter...

    GS1150 Starter Clutch Advice

Hi Roy, A very sweet list of mods for your EFFY, well done. Brian from Centurion has got back to me and we're good to go for the conversion, once the parts arrive he said he should have the job done in a week. I'll pack up the parts and have them in the Express Post ASAP, now where did I see...

    GS1150 Starter Clutch Advice

Hi Roy, Iam feeling the pain, and the anger hearing your Kat was stolen, lowlife swamp scum! Man oh Man, your EFFY looks amazing, the USD front and 6 pots are a serious mod and suit the bike very well, Is that a 17" front wheel and a JMC swinger? My EF Kat has an 1197 kit which is mild with...

    GS1150 Starter Clutch Advice

Hi Roy, The 1074 in our Avatar is a clue to us being Kat fans eh? My stock Kat 1100 I have owned since 6 Sep 1986 and it is still on the road. The factory Kat that never was is of course a Kat with an EF engine. Couldn't buy one from Suzuki so I followed the well worn path and built my project...

    GS1150 Starter Clutch Advice

Hi Katana 1074, thanks for the link to Centurion Motorcycles. They provide the starter clutch upgrade by upgrading the owners OEM starter unit after it has been sent to Centurion. Yeah, shipping there and back will not be cheap but I will look into it as an option if Plan A falls over. Plan A...

    GS1150 Starter Clutch Advice

Hi Folks, The OEM starter clutch in my GS1150 is in need of repairs for the usual suspects however, rather than install a replacement aftermarket (seems OEM are NLA) starter clutch kit I was thinking about a retrofitted sprag starter. The FBR Shop at one time supplied sprag conversion starter...

what did you wrench on today??

Riding last weekend and came around a corner onto fresh road works that were not sign-posted! Fresh bitumen and bluemetal (small stones) flicked up onto hot pipes not a good combination when you are miles from home. So today I am starting to remove the melted bitumen from the pipes. Have had to...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

After clocking up 800 km I did the second engine oil and filter change today, this is the second oil change after the top end rebuild. The first oil change was at 300 km and this one after 500km from the first change. The drained oil has a few very small specs of metal but nothing serious. The...

    630 to 530 chain/sprockets on 1981 GS750L - Do it?

Hi Andy, going from 630 to 530 is a very good idea and has all the benefits as pointed out by Nessism. The lighter chain and sprocket weight = less rotating mass (and as a bonus a lower static weight) that provides quicker rear wheel spool up time and crisp gear changes due to the lighter drive...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Have done some more rides to test tyre pressures and for now have settled for 28 PSI front and 32 PSI rear. After 50km at legal speed the front pressure had gone from 28 PSI to 31 PSI and the rear from 32 PSI to 35 PSI. Grip and handling are good so the next thing to monitor is tyre wear. After...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Tested the tyre pressure on a ride today with 27 PSI front and 32 PSI rear (cold tyres), on a 60 km ride on the open road. Handling and comfort are O.K. going over the same bumps and ripples as the previous ride with a similar increase in pressure once the tyres were at operating temperature...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Hi Steve, thank you. All of those tiny changes to shave a few grams here and a few grams there in the end combine to make for a pretty big weight reduction. The power to weight ratio is where it all comes together, an 1197 cc engine with a few hotrod parts and weighing 10 kg less than a 1985...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Have put a few more km on the Kat for the second 300 km break-in run. The tyre pressure is still being tweeked and for now the radials are running with 30 PSI front and 36 PSI rear. Handling and suspension is doing well at those pressures however, on the next ride I'll drop them to 29 PSI front...
