All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Go watch a formula one race on TV, then go make your 550 sound like that. You will love it.

    81 gs550 highway speed?

And to answer the original question, it only goes so fast if you just open the throttle in 6th. Maybe 90 or so depending on your sprocket ratios. If you wind out 4th all the way, then 5th, then hit 6th it will keep building speed, ends up going a whole lot faster. It will likely hit the red...

    81 gs550 highway speed?

Not on a 550. I have pinned the tach hundreds of times, the power just keeps coming, never had any trouble at all. Tiny little pistons going up and down about an inch or so, it needs to spin to do anything at all. Wind it out!

    81 gs550 highway speed?

Mine runs great well above the red line. Lasted a hell of a long time too. Well over 120,000 miles, and it still ran beautifully when I sold it. I'm a huge fan of the 550, have owned several of them and ridden many more, but I don't think I've ever run a 550 below 5,500 RPM, because it's a...

1980 GS1000G Standars cam chain tensioner - adjustment

Check to make sure the setscrew isn't set. Some hamfists do this, and it prevents the tensioner from working. It should be backed out 1/2 turn and then the locknut locked. Other than that it either works or it doesn't. Usually they do. And... If a GS isn't making at least a wee bit of noise...

    82 gs 750 exhaust on an 82 650?

No, I asked. The pipe is taken already.

    82 gs 750 exhaust on an 82 650?

The pipes for the 550 are smaller then the ports in the 650 head, but it's easy enough to make little spacers to hold them in place.

How Best to Build out a Side Stand Light Circuit

Yes, that's the one. I put one made out of old tire rubber on one bike a long time ago, just a strip of rubber and a couple hose clamps. Went into a left turn to test it out and the stand just swings back harmlessly. It has to stick down below the end of the stand itself a half inch or so, to...

How Best to Build out a Side Stand Light Circuit

That looks so hard compared to adding a block of rubber to the side stand to flip it up if you forget like Honda does.

    79 GS750 Carb tuning

Do the ignition too. They need routine adjustments every year or so, and it probably hasn't been done in 30 years.

    79 GS750 Carb tuning

A lot of that may be ignition related if you are still running points ignition and if you haven't maintained them lately.
