A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Kerker exhaust for what model

No, sadly I won't be anywhere near my 650 for a week or two.

    Kerker exhaust for what model

Do the two outer cylinder's pipes angle in to the head? On the 550 and 650 the ports are angled out a little bit, maybe 8 or 10 degrees or so. The 650's ports are a larger diameter than the 550's too. If it's a 650 pipe I'd like to talk to you about buying it.

    Clutch Switch

The difficulty is in having to use the silly switch all the time. The older GSes didn't have it, and you can start them with two hands. Needing three hands to start a motorcycle because some crooked politician thirty five years ago said so is ludicrous.

    GS 650 engine from 83 on a 78ish gs550 frame?

Not all that easy. You have to split the cases to hog the upper one out for the 650 cylinder's bigger sleeve diameter. Quite a bit of metal had to be ground away.

    GS 650 engine from 83 on a 78ish gs550 frame?

Defining detail..... Way more powerful than it was as a 550. Quicker, higher top speed and gets there a lot easier, chugs around slowly, you can whack the throttle open at 2,000 RPM in 6th gear and it chugs right out, or you can kick it down a few gears and scream it at 10,000, either way...

    Gas tank cleaning machine.....

You should see what they've done to the trails around here.

    Gas tank cleaning machine.....

Kerosene, because it's a lot safer to use than gasoline. If I wanted to use acid I wouldn't have built a tank cleaning machine. That's the whole idea, to clean it without making it want to flash rust again right away. Most of my tanks have just a tiny bit of surface rust inside. Old dried...

    Gas tank cleaning machine.....

This thing is running fine now. Windshield wiper motor, tank rocking back and forth, kerosene sloshing around inside. Need to go get some pumice or something to give it a little tooth to scrape the rust off. I'd use aquarium rocks but they sink, need something mildly abrasive that floats in...

    1978 gs1000e

The rust comes from sitting for years, and probably with a half tank of gasoline in them. Most people couldn't care less about taking care of these old beasts.

    Gas tank cleaning machine.....

Im sure it works, but I don't have room for a clothes dryer in the shop and I'm not doing a gas tank in the laundry.

    Gas tank cleaning machine.....

Photobucket is on it's ass, so now new pics. Got the motor hooked up to rock the cradle, need some kind of a track for it to rock in so it doesn't slide all over the place. Then just find my old tank hole plugs or cut a new set, and go find some kerosene. It will need some better hardware...

WD-40 on your rubbers? I would have thought that would sting.

    Gas tank cleaning machine.....

Yeah, that would work. I don't have one of those. Because it's a quad, and quads suck.

    Gas tank cleaning machine.....

Just something to gently slosh some solvent or something around inside. I was thinking like a teeter totter, or maybe a little gas tank swingset, maybe just a board that goes up and down on one end. Fill it half full with some solvent, some kind of small chunks of something abrasive, turn it...
