A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    What's a T?

This 750T in Ohio is a nice bike ... looks well looked after. Bit pricey but if it has had everything taken care of it may be worth it as you won't be working on it or pouring money in to repairs/upgrades. And thanks Kerrfunk - I will wait for once closer to home and besides at the moment I...

    GS550 Acting Over-Jetted

I am not to the level of many here but I have two of the same bikes that I have restored and two more 550L models as well. Kind of fell into a familiarity rut restoring them ... nonetheless I have torn the carbs down for each one and was glad I did as 37 years is a long time for these gas...

    What's a T?

For some reason they only have a single disk on the front brake for the 450T, 550T and 750T. Oddly they did not make a 650. Nice styling on the 750' it is on my to buy and restore list.

For $45 it is worth a try - I bid on it and will see how it tests out/runs. Thanks Steve - the amount of work you do for others here is pretty amazing and appreciated.

New or used? Well I figure I may as well go new if I putting a lot of effort into this rebuild and I want it to be dependable ... Pro Caliber seems to still have it for $134 shipped - does that seem correct by your account? Here's the numbers/description they've listed...

The switch off part was what I wasn't getting and now understand. Next question is where's a good place to buy one and know it is not a "fake"?

    Decisions

My question is a pretty simple one, I am restoring a GS650G basket case from the frame up. Powder coating the frame, found a NEW tank, covers and tail piece and will get a new stock seat cover so she should look pretty good when it is done. My concern is that I have a couple of 81 GS550T's...

10 Points to Whoever Can Name this Mystery Part(s) I Found in my Bike

I believe you win ... 09209 - 05011 ... appears to be the contact switch/pin and spring for the gear selector signal mechanism (my terminology). I took the gizmo off and must have left the pin/spring behind and it fell out. Thanks! IOU 10 points. Mm

10 Points to Whoever Can Name this Mystery Part(s) I Found in my Bike

Ok ... cleaning up the engine on my GS650G basket case I am (hopefully) bringing back to life. I've mounted it on a Harbor Freight automotive engine stand using some custom brackets I hacked out of some left over job I likely never finished around the house. When I rotated the engine to clean...

    Raising 650GL seat

Last year I took a GS550L with the stepped seat and swapped it out for a GS550T seat which is higher slightly but flatter thereby allowing you more horizontal space to position you butt on the seat in a more comfortable spot. The GS550T was a one year production bike in 81 and seats are a wee...

Messed Up Pilot Jets Stuck - Anyone Good at RemovingThem?

Thanks to those that have offered some solutions here. I have reached out to David who fortunately lives up the road in Langely BC to take him up on his offer. I've tried the heat and tapping a variety of screw drivers into what is left in the slot to no avail. There's no way, that I can see...

Messed Up Pilot Jets Stuck - Anyone Good at RemovingThem?

I have a set of GS650G 1982 carbs that are in great shape but the previous owner messed up the slots of the pilots jets and I can not get them out. I have searched out the different remedies and tried a few on other carbs that have the same problem with no success. I am hoping their may be a...

    Snapped Shock Mount

Thanks - this is what I really like about this forum - it makes me think and learn. Wish I had more of that attitude when I was in school ... Seems I can get a shoulder bolt pretty easy that is 80 mm in length, 12 mm diameter at the shoulder and a 10 x 1.5 thread for the remaining 20 mm...

    Snapped Shock Mount

From what I see the shoulders bolt do not have threads for a good portion of it length from the head to the threads as per the link chart/illustration below. Seems the "smooth" part or the shoulder is 12 mm and the threads are 10 mm x 1.5 and the threaded portion is 16.4 mm. The length of the...

    Exhaust studs

Hey Jordan - Thanks for this tip/info. I have been searching out bolt suppliers, Fastenal, online sellers etc who put together packages for crankcase covers for our GS's and have found it to be time consuming and often more expensive than I'd hoped. I have to say after going to Bolt Depot I...

    Snapped Shock Mount

Thanks - I am of the same opinion at the end of the day. I have threaded the nut on and it holds well but there's a reason that there are more than two turns of a thread on a bolt. I am sure there are instances where the pressure on a nut is much greater when riding than sitting in my garage...
