I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    needing exhaust

I have 2 1982 GS650G's that I have restored in the last few years. The second one is nearly completed. I bought stock exhaust used off eBay for each. The stock exhaust are not plentiful but they are available. I made sure that the ones I bought were from bikes that had relatively low miles...

Replace a G tank or seat to an L?

A few years back I picked up an 82 GS550L cheap and converted it to a GS550T model cosmetically: side covers, fenders, seat ( with a few mods). It looked great but rode like crap ... I put a set handle bars on it that were a wee bit wider than the stock GS550T bars ... it steered...

Draining fuel and carbs for winter

I now do the same. I had been filling the tank and running the bikes (when I remembered to) monthly but nearly every year I'd have to pull and clean the carbs as they ran poorly in the spring. I wasn't paying attention to the eithanol levels etc ... I will from now on though. I use a...

    Swingarm Caps GS650G Good News

Happy to help - on the bike I am working on now (GS650G 82) I am going to finish it off in a matte black and so these caps are perfect. I am sure there will be quite a few who've lost them that will order 5 for $6 ... you'll have spares in case one pops off.

    Swingarm Caps GS650G Good News

There have been several posts on how difficult it is to find swingarm caps and how expensive they are if you can find them. I took a chance and ordered some black furniture caps off of eBay in the 40 mm size and received them today. They’re a good fit and look decent. I will install mine with a...

Buddy just dropped off a completely disassembled 1982 GS650e

I use an automotive style stand utilizing a simple set of brackets fashioned from steel framing brackets from Lowes/Home Depot. I like this system as it allows me to easily flip/rotate the engine 360 for servicing, cleaning and painting if so desired. It also allows me to move it around my...

    Stator recommendations

Yup ... Bought two for two GS550T's I was riding and restoring six or seven years or so ago. They sent the wrong one first time around but were fabulous to deal with remedying the mistake. I still have one of the bikes and put about 8,000 km on it since with no issues. Their YouTube videos...

    Starter Motor Compatibility

Can someone tell me whether the starter for a GS650G would be compatible for a GS1100? Are they the same for all or most GS models?

What’s The Trick to Removing These ???

The two screws (7 on the diagram) screw into the tail light frame (1 on the above diagram). When I try to turn these screws to remove them they feel rock solid locked. There appears to be some kind of sped nut? Embedded in the tail light frame that prohibits them from being removed … would the...

I tried a bunch of sprays … will not budge … feels like there’s an obstruction almost.

What’s The Trick to Removing These ???

I need to change the messed up wiring harness from the tail light on my 82 GS650G and swap it out with another I have. I have to get into the back of the brake light housing and for the life of me I cannot get the two large JIS (Phillips) screws/bolts, holding the housing together, to loosen at...

    What Are These Called …

I was installing the chrome trim flashing on the tail of my GS650G. I was missing some of the pins for the speed/push nuts. I ended up using, for a few of the holes, a couple of regular faceplate socket screws for wall plugs and corresponding size nut. I actually found these work better than the...

    What Are These Called …

Speed Nuts …. Hmmm … So they’re named after half the riders in this forum! I have also seen them listed as push nuts … I need four for the badge emblems on the side covers as well as 8 more to attach the chrome trim on the seat rear fender trim piece. Thanks to all … I sure appreciate the...

    What Are These Called …

I know that these are called emblem clips and the cost anywhere from $2 to $10 a piece on eBay and other suppliers plus shipping . Surely this is a common item that could be purchased locally at Fastenal or some other hardware store. What is the generic name for these? And does anybody have a...

Front Wheel Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir Size

I am working on bringing a GS650G 1982 back to life and instead of trying to rebuild the Front brake master cylinder piston mechanism etc ( which was a mess) I ordered a complete front wheel master cylinder replacement (cheapo) on eBay (which I have used in the past with no trouble). I...

I will be installing a SH775 regulator/rectifier on a GS650G project and will be making a harness with the proper connectors. What gauge of wire should I be using to this cobble together? Thanks to all!
