A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

#2 cylinder always rich and fouled

I pulled the vacuum line so I can go match it up with some clear line of the same size and I did notice it was wet on both ends and it does smell like gas. should there be any gas at all in there? My guess is probably not.

#2 cylinder always rich and fouled

Huh.. I hadn't considered that. How would I check that? From what I can tel the petcock doesn't seem to leak.

#2 cylinder always rich and fouled

New to me 1982 GS1100 GK. PO changed the main jets to 120. Pilots are stock 40's. Original air box. Delkevik 4 into 1 exhaust with the center baffle removed. All pilot screws are set at 3 turns out using the engine RPM as a guide. The bike starts and idles perfectly and runs really well at...

    Broken Fork Air Valve!

Thanks! But I think I'm going to just replace the springs and forego the air all together. One of the rear shocks is also leaking, so I'll probably just replace those with conventional shocks as well.

    Broken Fork Air Valve!

So are we talking about simply replacing the springs only? When I look up springs on the race tech site there's something there about a valve emulator and modifying the dampening rod.

    Broken Fork Air Valve!

Great advice and thanks!! This is the kind of answer I was looking for. New springs it is!!

    Broken Fork Air Valve!

After putting some air in my front left fork and re-installing the cap, this happened. :(. The Air valve assembly just broke off! I should have known something was up as it was very difficult to add air and kept leaking. I supposed it was cracked this whole time and finally gave out. I found...

I was already thinking about changing the brake lines. Brakes would be good too. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip about partshark! I did get the service manual from Big Cliffs but I didn’t think there were many exploded diagrams in it. But lo and behold, I went back through it and found that exact same one!

Where did you get that exploded diagram?

Best way to find air leak?

Huh.. I read that higher octane doesn’t make any real difference. Maybe the ethanol free is what did it? I just filled up with ethanol free. So we’ll see!

The PO says the original exhaust was rusted pretty bad so he cut it off and added aftermarket slip ons. He did a decent job but I went ahead and ordered a Delkevic 4 into 1. And do you mean disassembling the rear hub assembly? I did check the oil and it’s topped and clean.

    Hard clutch pull

Thanks for the advice! I did check the cable pull while disconnected from the clutch lever and it was easy to pull. No effort at all. But it’s still a good idea to check for bends. Also, thanks for the tips on the screws!

Best way to find air leak?

Couldn’t hurt. I’ve always used seafoam but never been sure if it’s actually doing anything. That would be a good test!

Best way to find air leak?

That's the tutorial I plan to follow. Will check out the cam chain tensioner link as well. Thanks for the tips! Oh, and you ride your GK at Wide Open Throttle "most of the time"?:-k And is there any other way to ride! lol. What I really meant there is that most of the time, when at WOT...

Best way to find air leak?

I am the new owner of a 1982 GS1100GK. This bike is in excellent condition and was "restored" by the PO. The bike runs pretty good but stumbles a bit in different throttle positions when it's cold. Only after about an hour or so of riding does it clear up. Even then, sometimes it doesn't...

    Hard clutch pull

I’ve tried three different Kawasaki KZ1000 KZP bike. An 86, 92 and a 95. All are orders of magnitude easier than this GS. Thanks for the idea about removing some springs! Will try stock springs first. If that doesn’t work then I’ll remove some and see how that goes.

    Hard clutch pull

I don’t know if it has different springs in it or not. But that would be a good test. I can’t imagine a set of clutch springs is too much. Then I’d know for sure that’s just how it is.

    Hard clutch pull

New owner of an 82 1100GK. The clutch pull on this this is HARD. I disconnected the cable from the clutch lever arm and the cable moves freely. So it seems the cable is fine. My left hand is sore after a few hours of riding. And it’s not just me. Two of my riding buddies said the same...

Me too actually. But on this one I like it allot. Maybe it’s the gold striping.
