A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

TSCC = Typical Suzuki Clobbers the Competition

Fine example of a passive performance enhancer. Can't help but compare with the Yamaha YPVS but that came with complexity. Seems like that in the 80's there was a lot to be gained with 'simple' ideas and almost every model year had something. And what kind of surface is that they are testing...

    What Reg Rec To buy?

As built, three wires come from the stator. Two go directly to the r/r. the third takes a run up to the headlight and back to the r/r. Typically it heads off as a Green/ White and comes back as a Red/ White. You want to cut out this loop entirely and take the three generator wires directly to...

    some kind of short

... and it can also be a bad ground cable return from the crankcase to the battery negative. A quick check here is to measure the voltage drop from the crankcase to the battery negative when cranking. Ideally, zero. Acceptable tenths of a Volt

    some kind of short

I would have thought that tenders have short cct protection on the output. What tenders were they and how much current? Ideally you charge at C/10 which means one tenth of the battery capacity. For an 850 with a 14Ah battery that would be 1.4 Amps. What do you mean by dragging on the starter?

    What Reg Rec To buy?

Open the generator cover and check the wiring inside. I thought my stator was toast and got another. When I opened up I found some genius had used bullet connectors inside and the wires had fused together. The stator was fine. A damaged stator will generally have signs of overheating...

    What Reg Rec To buy?

Don't assume anything. Road to perdition that one. Check the wiring and plugs between stator and R/R Check the stator output. Ideally 80 Volts a/c at 5000 rpm open cct. Check stator legs for shorts to ground Check the R/R for a short in one of the legs. Loads of posts of hard won experience here...

    Lost a nut down the crankcase today...how f.ed am I ?

You could try pushing the magnet in under the starter clutch. There is a gap there through to the crankcase. I pulled a starter idler gear washer out of an 850. Who knows how long it had been there.

82 750 leaking gas from airbox hose

After long layups the shock of being run again can precipitate incipient failures. There is a lot to be said for the old on off petcocks. Did anyone mention that rebuild kits are iffy :) Opening the old one and cleaning can sometimes make it better as was the case with my 850. Try that first.

    1100 630 chain slack problems

Last chain driven daily rider I had was a long time ago so I probably shouldn't talk so much :) It was a Z650 and the front would be clearly hooked but if you squinted a bit the rear was passable. Yes, best practice is replace the lot.

    1100 630 chain slack problems

I seem to recall someone on here having mystery alignment issues at the front sprocket. Forget what the outcome was.

    1100 630 chain slack problems

Have you measured the chain stretch? I agree with Rob. Maybe not both sprockets everytime but definitely the front. I'm guessing the effective pitch on the front is a lot less than what it should be and the loads are not being shared between links.

    Trouble starting 79 GS750L

The external filter makes me think the petcock is not original which would have had an integral filter in the tank. There shouldn't be a fuel pump. Those bikes are gravity fed. If the external filter is a pressurised fuel system type it won't flow enough for a gravity fed system. If the petcock...

Cleaning surface rust off the chrome on my 77 GS

Some before and after pics of KZ400. Tinfoil and vinegar. Gentle pressure and let the acid and aluminium do the work. You can see pits still on the muffler and mudguard. The rust will return.

    Uneven Front Tire Wear

I get nearly twice the distance from a front and they always wear the right side more. Right turns are faster. In the US I imagine that would be left side. I can tell an import bike fairly quick. How many miles were on that Angel?

New fuel tank without keys to open it.

So if nobody can open it, nobody can see what the insides are like?

    Two bad SH775???

Don't believe in co-incidence and the SH775 are fairly bulletproof. Are any aftermarket accessories fitted to the bike? Do the drain test again, this time removing each fuse in turn and see if removing one makes a difference.
