I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Real Wheel / Spline Removal / Inspection / Replace Questions

So I read all the stuff about the wheel hub splines wearing down on the 82 G models. Mine is an 82GK. I'm not sure if the PO ever greased the hub splines, and I'm inclined to believe he didn't. The bike has 33k miles on it. So I figured it would be a good idea to get some high moly grease and...

    Better Carb Holder Clamps?

You are correct, these are aftermarket boots. The issue was present with the OEM boots. That's why I replaced them. I was unable to find both left and right side OEM boots, and honestly I wasn't sure if that was even the issue. The wormscrew clamps that came with the boots are only a tiny bit...

    Better Carb Holder Clamps?

I've been tracking down an air leak somewhere between the carbs and the engine. I suspect either leaky throttle shaft seals, or boots. I replaced the boots and the new ones came with standard worm-gear hose clamps. These clamps do seem to have better clamping force and may have resolved my...

    Question about Float Height

This is what I did. Mine didn't have the marks on the end but it's essentially the same. I would have made my own but I don't have any spare bowl plug bolts. And finding a bolt the right size AND thread pitch seemed impossible. All of the hardware stores around here either had the right...

    Question about Float Height

That’s a good idea. I was measuring with my calipers each time. This would have been easier. Will do this next time.

    Question about Float Height

So using your advice, I was able to get the float heights spot on. Especially the part in your guide about the floats compressing the needle valve. All of mine did this so I had to carefully find the point where the float just touched the needle. Once I did that I took a measurement, made an...

    Question about Float Height

I did think measuring the fuel level on the bike, with the engine running would be a challenge. Especially on the two inner carbs. The bench method sure seems easier. Thank you for the explanation!

    Question about Float Height

I'm a little confused on how exactly to measure the float height. The manual that Nessism put together show the measurement is taken from the gasket surface to the top of the rounded part of the float. My service manual shows the measurement should be from the bottom edge of the carb body to...

    Carb Sync Jam Nut Frustration

Nice! That's exactly what I was thinking about doing. I eventually ordered the long screwdriver tool and got them sync'd. But even with that, tightening the jam nut while holding the screwdriver, while easier than before, was still hard to get it exact. I found myself "pushing" on the tool...

    Turn signal switch dissasembly

Got it figured out. So there are two larger springs, and two smaller ones. The smaller ones go inside the slider, behind the two copper contacts to keep pressure as it slides left and right. The two larger springs are for the up-down (high low beam), and the left right return. It's not...

    Turn signal switch dissasembly

So I got the new one installed. Looks and works great. Decided to take apart the old one to clean it up. Finally figured out how the switch removes. There was one little screw holding the circuit board in. Once you remove that, the whole assembly comes out, but the switch and slider stays...

Installing SS Brake Lines, What angles?

I did some quick measuring with a protractor tool on my phone and came out to 23 degrees. So 20 is probably right. And the others were straight, as you suggested.

Installing SS Brake Lines, What angles?

That's the problem I'm having now. I don't have a way to match the angles and there are 8 different ones to choose from. While still useful, the parts fiches don't show the angles or banjo connectors individually. Burque73 below recommended a protractor app which may get me close enough to...

Installing SS Brake Lines, What angles?

I am looking at installing SS brake lines on my 82 GS1100. Currently has stock setup. I was going to go with the ones from Z1, but I'm not sure of which banjo fittings to go with. Anyone else here already replace theirs with ones from Z1 and can let me know the lengths and fittings used...

    Valve Shim Quality

Thanks for the helpful info! I’ checked my tolerances and several were <.04 mm. My feeler gauges only went down to .04. And I forgot to check which ones were in there. This is my first time working with shims / buckets. I’ll have a new feeler gauge that goes down to .02 soon so I can recheck...

    Valve Shim Quality

I’m about to order some valve shims for my 82 GS. Anyone have any issues with the non-oem shims from Z1? Reason I ask is a friend ordered some for his KZ and they ended up with premature wear marks and some scoring on the cam. This could be completely coincidental and unrelated to the shims...

    Fairnig Installation

Got it! In case anyone else has the same issues.. I had to change the handlebars to get the brake master cylinder out of the way, find longer headlight brackets to move the headlight farther out so I could move it up a little (Ebay), and get some fork mount turn signal brakets for the turns...
