A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    got it 'good enough'

Now that's my kind of ride. Good enough indeed! It don't need to be perfect, (and my Ratzuki sure ain't perfect.) As long as it starts, runs, stops, and brings ya home, that's all anyone really needs.

    Fork Springs

I just acquired a set of used stock forks for the Ratzuki (GS850), and am wondering if this is a good time to put some new springs in, that is before installing. Should I go for progressive wound springs or will the stockers be ok? I am rather hefty and heavier springs might work for a better...

    Fork Tubes

The Ratzuki has a problem with blowing fork seals. Mike the mechanic sez the tubes are pitted and it will continue blowing seals until they are fixed. My question: can these tubes be repaired somehow, or are there replacement fork tubes in my future? If so what should I do about this? Can I put...

    Gs400

My neighbor recently acquired a 77 GS400 and I was wondering about the brakes. His bike has drum brakes on both wheels and I always thought the GS series had disc brakes on the front exclusively. Am I wrong about this, or has someone buggered this particular bike? The bike runs ok, but I for one...

    Made me feel stupid

I went out today with the petcock "on" and it ran real good. Rode over to the nearest Arby's(love that roast beef) and back, 20 miles round trip, no problems, so I guess I don't need to anything at all to it which makes me feel even dumber than before. Oh well.

    Made me feel stupid

And the reason it made me feel stupid is that it took me 8 months to figure that out.

    Made me feel stupid

OK, i'll sing. I put the petcock on prime and it fired right up. Has to be the vacuum line. Got some line, will replace it. will report further.

    Made me feel stupid

I just got the Ratzuki running today after the teeniest little adjustment. I got back from Columbus in September and it was running just fine. the next day it would not start. Well I naturally thought of the stator first, because that was the most expensive thing i could think of. So it's been...

    Old GS handling limitations

One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is tire pressure. Back when these bikes were new, the magazine testers would complain of wiggling in the rear end that would clear up like magic when the tires were pumped up just 3 or 4 psi. Certainly worth thinking about.

Plastic stub on side cover broke....

The superglue is there to hold the piece straight while the epoxy sets, so whatever you think is best is ok with me. I just buy whatever is cheap, same with the plastic type epoxy. It's worked every time so far.

Plastic stub on side cover broke....

I have had this problem several times, including on my present bike, the Ratzuki. I clean up the areas involved, then use superglue to hold the piece in place and then mix up some epoxy and pack it in around the stem area. Put in plenty and let it harden. After it hardens, trim off the excess...
