If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Hi Katana 1074 Thank you for the kind words and positive waves regarding the Kat build, much appreciated. Thanks for the heads-up regarding the potential issue for the starter clutch. I have noticed it as an issue over the years however, it seems to be reported by owners in Europe and sometimes...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

O.K. there is now a Plan A for the engine re-fresh: 1) Have ordered a set of Wiseco 1197 cc pistons. 2) Barrels to be bored to suit new pots. 3) Valve seats to have a five-angle seat cut. 4) Valves to be machined to match the five-angle seat cut. 5) New OEM valve seals. 6) New valve stem...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Hi Folks, its been awhile since an update on the Project Kat so here is where its at. All is going well and soo much fun to ride compared to the overweight stock Kat that now sits in the shed alone and looking pretty sad. Anyway its not about that Kat its about this Kat today. The engine was...

GS aftermarket parts that actually worked post here

You have brought up an interesting subject and an issue that many have had to deal with, sometimes successfully and at other times with disappointing results. At times I have used aftermarket parts and although they did the job the quality was far from an OEM part and of course this is often...

    GS550 Steering Stem Bearing Removal

Hi Joseph, I am sure others have their way of removing the lower stem bearing and no doubt there is an "official" way to do it however, there is a quick and easy way. You have mentioned it yourself, cut the bearing off. I have replaced a few of those lower stem bearings and I use a 1mm cutting...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

The foam filters that were installed in the original build needed to be replaced however, I wanted to try stainless steel screens. The stainless screens last longer, easy to clean, don't breakdown with age and are less than half the weight! Fitted the screens last weekend and went for a test...

    GS Rectifier/Regulator replace

Thanks, good to know it is a plug and play swap for the SH775 now that I have the wiring and connectors in place.

    GS Rectifier/Regulator replace

Thanks for the heads-up Nessism and the advise regarding the SH775. Yes, the one I installed is an FH020AA unit and not the SH775 I should have bought, oops! I'll keep an eye on the volts meter and if it goes over 15 on a ride I'll disconnect one of the yellow stator wires from the harness and...

what did you wrench on today??

Today I finally retired the very tired 43 year old original Reg/Rec on my 1982 GSX1100S. Volts were dropping down to 13.1 and the Rec was getting very hot, too hot to touch at times. I have swapped the OEM unit for a Mosfet Reg/Rec and rather than go with an aftermarket reg I decided to use a...

    GS Rectifier/Regulator replace

Hi jdub6092, does the list you have for a replacement Reg/Rec include one from Yamaha? I found a Yamaha Mosfet Reg/Rec that works on my Suzuki 1982 GSX1100. Installed it today and it is working fine with 14.3 volts on the meter and no heat in the Reg/Rec, after a two hour test ride the Reg/Rec...

    Brakes, front tire, chain

Thanks for the kind words. Yep, we are on the wrong side of the world and miles from everywhere, hhmmmm, not always a bad thing these days unless ordering parts from overseas when the cost of shipping and the time it takes for shipping to get here is a downer! :( I have a maintenance routine...

    Brakes, front tire, chain

I live in a very high humidity area and with brake fluid being hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air) I replace the brake fluid every 12 months, in March each year once Summer is over.

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Yep, for converting an old Kat into a Hotrod that is one way to go for performance and perhaps shedding a few grams. Would be interesting to know how much lighter the Gen 2 Busa pistons are compared to aftermarket forged pistons?

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

The numbers are in and it isn't looking good for the flatslides. The 38mm flatslides, two throttle cables and twin cable throttle = 4,140 g. The 36 mm CV's, one cable and single cable throttle = 3,172 g. So changing to the flatslides will add 968 g (and about 10 ponies going by dyno figures...

New clutch in my 1982 Kat 1000

Hi Roy826, unless your Kat has been constantly launched off the line and the clutch abused pretty hard there shouldn't be enough wear on OEM plates at 40,000 miles to need replacing them. I have owned Kats for 44 years and still ride a Kat to this day. One of my Kats had 340,000 km and still had...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Yes, maybe 34 mm flatslides would suit a stock 1135 and I know some who are running those carbs on their Kat. However, fitting 38 mm flatslides is not unusual with the 1135 and over engines in my part of the world. My engine will be running a set of 4-1 Yoshi 60 mm pipes with a 60 mm muffler...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Hi Steve, thanks for the kind words about the "featherweight", much appreciated. Many hours of tweeking over the years is how that stance came about. The stance was a bonus really, the tweeking was focused on improving handling and comfort by raising the rear with 30mm longer shocks to reduce...
